The dream faded as Maylon brought herself to a scared sitting position. This painful memory polluted her dreams since that day. She was sixteen now, but she never left the cell. She attempted to leave several times, but failed. Tonight she had a plan... Akito and most of the Souma family members would be attending a banquet celebrating the New Year. It was the perfect chance. She stayed still in her cell as she heard Akito and the man who erased her memories speak.

"Have you still kept her a secret from the rest of them?" The man with black hair covering his injured eye said kneeling in respect.

Akito, now a full grown man and even more dangerous than before, looked at him as he spoke, "Of course... She can't be known by others. She might regain her memory if she meets the person who is responsible for her memory loss." He looked at the cell seeing her glance through the small gap and stood up, smacking the wall. His voice cracked as he yelled directly at her, "Don't you have any brains woman?! You don't listen to men as they talk! Learn your place mutt!"

Maylon jumped back away from the wall trying to hide. It's hard to hide when you're being held captive. She sat on the cold hard ground holding her knees.

Will I ever live a normal life again?

Her head dropped on top of her hands as she began to lose all hope.

After a long discussion of which she could not hear, Maylon heard the door close, and she looked out the gap extremely carefully this time. She glanced back and forth quieting her breath. Her hair swayed gently as her head turned.

He's gone.

Maylon stood up picking up the materials she has collected over the years. Her escape plan was already in bedded in her memory. She took two chopsticks she had filed thinly with a small piece of steel she found connected to the bed frame, and placed it on the corner of the door, slipping it under the metal bar that made the door lock. She played around with it being extremely cautious not to break the fragile wood.

Click.

She turned the handle as the door opened with a small creak. However, Maylon was still not ready to smile. She knew that it wasn't over yet.

The Souma's had many guards that patrolled every area, especially on a night when the entire family is in the dining hall. She had never escaped far enough to have mapped out a direct way to get to the gate, so she had to trace every step. She tiptoed to the paper sliding door that led out of Akito's main room, and opened it carefully. The brisk night air hit her and immediately made her feel prepared and calmed her. She heard the commotion of two night watch guard communicating as she let out a small gasp of air. She silenced every sense in her body. The guards didn't seem to notice her as they walked the other way. After seeing or hearing no one, Maylon stepped outside closing the door. The air around her was fresh, and the moon and stars above radiated through the darkness of the night. Her hair reflected the light of the full moon like a red ember gently resting in an old campfire. Maylon only glanced up at the stars once, but had to move her vision quickly. She couldn't be distracted right now, she wasn't free yet.
