Flashback:
"John," Bridget arrives to his office, carrying urgent news - news he has already guessed. "Switzerland finally agreed, as did Norway and China. You have the world, John. We've made history here. Every country will now answer to you and will do what you order. They didn't put up a fight. They all put down their weapons," she informs him.
"If only every other country could've been as cooperative and had decided not to take arms. Then millions wouldn't have died these past few years. Anyway... March the twenty-second, two-thousand-and-twenty. This date will definitely go down in history. I suppose I ought to make a speech about this."John makes his way out of his office, which he was told would only be temporary, considering he had complained about its size. When John first prepared for taking over the world, he had already made good friends with the President of America, the President of Russia and the President of France in case other countries decided to strike against Britain for his decision of controlling the world. He had made sure that each of the presidents were elected; he had this planned for some time. Once he became Prime Minister, he had a new cabinet. But what he had not taken into consideration was his office size.
Before he could start preparing for a speech, Franklin had found him, much to John's despair; he had taken somewhat of a disliking towards him since the war in the Middle-East, with the way Franklin had dealt with it, John would have looked more like a bloodthirsty conqueror. He had forgiven some time after, however. "John, the news is great, right?" he says.
"Just brilliant, yes."
"Well, we're all having a party down the hall, you should be there. As, you know, you are our leader."
"Why wouldn't anyone tell me about this?" John asks, concerned.
"I'm telling you. David was probably gonna go get you anyway. C'mon," Franklin says and takes him to the celebration of conquering the world.John was not particularly enjoying the party, despite it being in his honour. Too many had died to get them this far, and they celebrate? It didn't click with John. There was already talk in the military of an uprising and mutiny. It made John nervous to think that he'd won the world, only for it to be taken from him. Uniting the world is what he always wanted. Now he has it. Yet he wasn't content.
"John, you don't seem too pleased," David tells him.
"Well, I try to put on a brave face when I tell all the nations that their soldier's deaths died for no reason, I'm sure I'm doing my best here, too," he replies, taking a sip of water; he would not drink alcohol often.
"You know, I had the same dream as you. Bringing the world together, to concentrate on the more important things in life, other than fighting for land or whatever. Now united, we can progress more in science and technology. Explore the stars, experience a better life here on Earth. My sister died fighting your wars. I'm gonna make this right... for her."
"I remember. Iraq?"
"Yeah. Thanks to Franklin."
"Look, he gets a lot of blame from everyone. I think, here at work, we should not have to mention it to him," John says, smiling for David, defending Franklin.
"Yeah, I know. Anyway, you better come and join us soon. We're missing you there." David leaves to return to the others. He considers accompanying the others. 'Even Bridget appears to be enjoying herself; this is embarrassing to me,' he tells himself. He goes to join in with David and Michelle's conversation.
"What are we discussing?" he asks them.
"Just saying how nice the world will be now," Michelle answers.
"Really? I know that's what this party is dedicated to, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's what you have to be talking about," John inquires.
"Okay, we were really talking about how we get on with our lives again," she responds, truthfully. "But that's still very similar to what I told you before."
"Yes, I suppose that's true. So, what will you be doing?" John questions Michelle.
"I'll get back to my kids. They're certainly missing me, and I can tell them how cool it is working for the man that owns the world!" John laughs.
"I guess I'll put my sister to rest," David says. "I didn't wanna kill the mood, sorry."
"Don't apologise. We mustn't forget our dead. That's why it feels so queer to be celebrating right now. After all that has happened."
"Yep, but remember what David said about killing the mood," Michelle jests, causing the other two to chuckle.
