Castiel held out his angel blade threateningly, lifting an eyebrow when Lazarus continued his stride towards him. He watched as the man waved his hand, causing the blade to fly off of the balcony. Then, Lazarus smiled once more and walked until he was a mere inch away from the angel.
"Hello, Cassy dear." he greeted, a hint of malevolence at the edge of his voice.
The seraph looked at the taller man hard in the eye. "How did you escape Heaven?" he demanded.
Lazarus grimaced at the memory of the box in which he had been held. "With a little assistance from some very pissed off angels. Told 'em I'd finish off the 'bastard in a trenchcoat' if they let me out, and they did." he responded in a mocking tone. "Did you steal their juice boxes on the playground, Cassy? 'Cause I've never seen angels so angry."
Castiel gaze faltered. "They are angry that I resisted Raphael. My reluctance caused the deaths of my brethren, and they resent me for that."
Lazarus's demeanor changed as soon as those words left Castiel's mouth.
"The Castiel I knew would not have allowed such an atrocity to occur." he stated, his amused tone lost.
"A lot has changed since you were locked away. I have doubts, now; unanswered questions." the angel fired back.
Lazarus chuckled mirthlessly at Castiel's indignation. "We were friends, Castiel. I know when you are lying."
"Do you really?" Castiel challenged. "You speak as if you did not betray Raziel, Samael, Cameel, and I."
"I did not." he hissed. "You and the rest were like the older siblings I never had. I would and never have betrayed you."
"Then who informed Michael of our plan? Raziel nearly died as a result of your --"
"I did not forsake your trust, Castiel." Lazarus thundered, his sporadic emotions causing lightning to flash across the skies.
The angel was quiet. Lazarus's voice held such strong certainty of his innocence that it was difficult to believe otherwise; however, he knew for a fact that the psychic was the reason behind his plan's failure.
"Why would I?" he asked softly, "I was a mere human -- even if they didn't smite me you certainly could. Raziel was your. . .lover, and my greatest friend. Giving her further injury would serve me no satisfaction."
"Raziel was not my lover." Castiel said, "Such a relationship would nearly be incestuous."
"Ah, but you're forgetting one very important detail, Cassy. She wasn't born an angel. Neither were Samael and Cameel either. You dragged them into that life." Lazarus reminded, his mocking tone returning. "You knew her when she was human, and you gave her the most volatile grace. The true Raziel's."
"Do not mention him." Castiel locked his jaw.
"Whatever became of the true Raziel? You cast him from Heaven yourself, didn't you? And then you killed him. Because he was going to warn that little human girl. How does it feel, Castiel? Giving up your morals, your brother's life. . .everything for a puny human and she can't even remember your sorry ass." Lazarus taunted.
Castiel used every ounce of power that he had to send Lazarus flying into the wall behind him, anger blocking his judgement.
Lazarus laughed. "That was weak, Cassy. Even for you. You must be losing your touch."
The psychic closed his eyes for a brief moment before widening his smile. "You have lost your touch."
Castiel narrowed his eyes Lazarus stood up again. "Oh, what did you do, Cas? I knew the angels were wary of you, but blocking you from Heaven? That must hurt."
