I awoke with a start as a ray of sunlight peered through the window and a ton of the other boys in the room were chatting away. I groaned while rubbing my eyes, which were still trying to focus on the room. My head spinned as I set my feet on the floor and got up.
What a crazy dream. I was obviously the boy with shaggy hair but, who was the girl? Cece…That was a nice name. Did I really have a childhood best friend? Did I really go to Hogwarts with her? If I had, did I break the promise? Questions were rambling through my mind as I changed and got ready to run downstairs to eat breakfast.
The dream had felt so real. It had felt like a memory. It felt…familiar. I’m going to hate that word for the rest of my life because of last night. I groaned loudly as I was leaving the common room.
‘Shivers were sent down my spine as soon as I walked into the great hall. My head had automatically snapped towards the Slytherin table. No Serena. I mentally slapped myself for being obvious.
I sat down next to Hermione, who was bickering at Ron already. “That doesn’t mean you have to yell at me!”
“Well, I’m sorry, but, I’m a little tired of you nosiness!” Ron yelled across the table.
“Don’t’ say sorry, when you’re not!” Hermione snapped angrily.
“Hermione! Ron! Stop it! Not this early.” I said trying to break up their fight. They ignored me and continued to bicker back and forth. Spitting angry words at each other. “Save it for later!” I shouted at them, hoping it would shut them up.
It worked for a few seconds but, was interrupted by other angry voices coming from outside the great hall. Every head turned, including mine. I stuffed cereal in my mouth as I waited for the two angry people to show their faces, just like everyone else. The Slytherins knew exactly who was fighting because they were gasping and pointing at the two.
“Why?! Draco, why?!” A girl shrieked.
My entire body froze as I instantly recognized that voice. Was it possible to just get Serena off my mind for two seconds?! I thought to myself, quite frustrated.
“Serena, you just need to understand this!” Draco’s voice sounded and I watched as Serena backed up into the hall slowly. She pushed herself away from Draco, who was following her with pleading eyes.
“Why should I?! You lied to me!” Her face was red, but no tears. It wasn’t that she was sad. She was furious.
I watched as her eyes flickered towards me and back at Draco. Her eyes kept meeting mine.
Then, it all came and washed over me with sudden realization. Her full lips, her smoky eyes, her straight, striking hair. No wonder everything felt so familiar when I was around her.
“Serena, what’s wrong?” those words sang inside my head. ‘Cece, what’s wrong?’
Her laugh, her cry, her voice. It gave me De ja vou for a reason.
Serena wasn’t just some girl. She was my childhood best friend. She was Cece! The only question that lingered in my mind was, Why was she so different?
