Chapter 3- The Truth Revealed

Alexandra, that isn't correct. You want a B flat, not a B," my music instructor, Madame Foresee, said. It was about a week after the ball and I was in my clarinet lessons.

"Yes Madame Foresee. But I thought this was a regular B," I said, pointing to my music sheet. She shook her head. I understood my problem when she pointed it out and fixed my fingering accordingly.

"You are improving, Alexandra. I am quite proud," Madame Foresee said. "However, there is still room for improvement. By the end of next week, I would like you to be able to play España Caní with little to no errors. Have a good day." With that, she smiled and left.

I stayed in my study for a bit longer, practicing the music given to me. Then, the head butler, Thomas, entered the study. "Madamoiselle, there is an earl downstairs here to see you."

"Really? I assume he brought his butler...what did they look like?" I began disassembling my clarinet and putting it away in its case.

"The butler has peculiar red eyes and the earl is quite young, with an eyepatch." I stood up abruptly and nodded.

"That would be Earl Phantomhive and his butler, Sebastian. Bring them to the drawing room right away and prepare tea." He nodded and left. I made my way into the drawing room just in time to greet them.

"Earl Phantomhive," I said, curtsying politely. "And hello Sebastian," I said with a smile. Sebastian bowed and Ciel smiled.

"Lady Alexandra. We apologize for coming without an invitation. I hope we didn't interrupt anything important," Ciel said.

"Oh, not at all, Ciel. I just finished my music lessons." Thomas came in then with the tea and Ciel and I both sat down to be served.

"Music lessons? What instrument do you play?" Ciel asked, taking a sip of his tea. I stirred mine. I actually wasn't too fond of tea. When I lived in France, Lord Chamber always brought coffee from Italy.

"The clarinet. Lord Chamber wanted me to learn the violin, but I prefer woodwind instruments." Ciel looked up, interested.

"Sebastian has been teaching me how to play the violin. May I ask what music you are learning?" I stood up and went over to the drawers in the corner, where Madame Foresee kept spare sheet music. I pulled out España Caní and showed it to Ciel.

"Interesting...Sebastian, can this be transposed into a pitch appropriate for violin music?" Ciel asked. Sebastian stepped forward and Ciel handed the sheet to him. Sebastian's eyes scanned it quickly.

"It seems like it can, Young Master," Sebastian said. "Although, if I do, the music would be considerably more difficult than this."

"That would be no problem, Sebastian. If it is alright with Alexandra, I would like this transposed by the next time we visit so that her and I can try this piece together." He looked at me for approval, and I nodded, pleased.

"Of course, my lord," Sebastian said, nodding respectfully. Ciel finished off his tea and turned back to me.

"Alexandra, I am curious...what is your last name? I've never heard it spoken before." Ciel's large cerulean eye peered at me. I sighed and sat back. Perhaps today was the day that he learned who I was.

"Why is it relevant, Ciel? It's just a name." I steepled my fingers and looked at him.

"Names hold a lot of power, Alexandra. And it's not about the relevance, it's about the fact that you're keeping it so secretive," Ciel explained. I naturally panicked and changed the subject.

"Please, Ciel, call me Alex. I absolutely hate my name. It is so feminine and it just doesn't match me," I said with a smile. "It was my grandmother's name, and I prefer to leave it that way."

"But Alex is a boy's name," Ciel said. He stared at me.

"That's the point, Ciel. I hate my name. So please, Alex will do when we are in each other's company." He nodded, accepting it.

"Fine then, Alex. And stop avoiding my question. If it is just a name, why not tell me?" Ciel's voice held a bit of frustration. I sighed again.

"You're a smart young man, Ciel. Figure it out, because if I told you on my own, you wouldn't believe me."

"What do you mean figure it out? You haven't given me hints," Ciel's brow furrowed in confusion. I stole a glance at Sebastian, and he was staring intently at me. It seemed that he had figured it out much quicker than his master.

"Look at me, Ciel," I said, standing up and gesturing to myself. "That is a major hint. Another is my necklace. And another- my parents died eight years ago." Ciel's eye widened in shock and then denial.

"Impossible," he whispered, standing as well. He looked me over several times and continued to shake his head vigorously. I watched him do it.

"And your last hint is that my father and Lord Chamber were close friends, and when I was born as sick as I was, they gave me to him to nurture me."

"Why must you be such a bloody liar, Alex?" Ciel said venomously, shocking me with the swear word. "Why must you play this game and not tell me the truth?"

"I thought you liked games, Ciel. And I assure you I have not lied to you. Everything I have said up to this point is true. Ask your butler." Ciel turned to him and Sebastian nodded, confirming what I said.

"It is true, my lord. She has not spoken a lie." Ciel went up to Sebastian angrily and slapped him hard, the sound echoing around the room. Oh dear, this got out of hand. This was just supposed to be a pleasant visit...

"Sebastian, why didn't you tell me sooner? Honestly. You are my butler and therefore are loyal to me."

"I just found out myself, my lord. And even if I had known, you never asked me," Sebastian said, smirking slightly. I saw malice in his eyes, and a coldness that wasn't very common.

"Ciel, come here," I said in a firm voice. He turned to me and came. I grabbed his left hand and pulled out my necklace, dropping it into his palm so he could inspect it further. "Do you see this necklace? This is proof enough. Why can't you just say it? Please Ciel, just say it." He shook his head quickly and I sighed, straightening myself.

"Then I guess I will have to introduce myself." I smiled and said, "Hello, my name is Alexandra Phantomhive, daughter of Vincent and Rachel and twin of the Earl of Phantomhive."

This is based off the anime, but obviously, some things are changed. Ciel and Alexandra are 15, not 13 like in the anime. Therefore, their parents died about eight years ago on their birthday. Capisce?
