Chapter Four

“She’s not in the kitchen!” Cameron yelled, walking out of the kitchen so he could glare at me for letting my snake loose in the house, and all I did was sit on my butt, and play shoot ‘em up video games.

“She’ll want to be somewhere warm.” I told him, knowing the kitchen was surprisingly the coldest room in the house.

“Why?” He asked, just as Caden yelled, “SHE’S NOT IN THE DINING ROOM OR THE BATHROOM!”

I rolled my eyes. “идиот, she’s a snake. Snakes like warm places because they are cold-blooded.” [idiot] I said boredly, not even worried.

I smiled as I saw Anastasia pad out from under the couch, and jump onto the seat next to me, finding a comfortable spot on my knees. “Aw, little baby. You like me again?” I cooed, moving to pet her, but stopped short when she turned to give me a cute little kitten glare. I let out a little ‘Awww!’, before going back to shooting enemies in the video game I was playing.

“Sometimes, you seriously creep me out,” Caden announced, giving me a weird look. “Going from cutesy girly-girl with that kitten, and then serious gamer the next second. And then, every once in awhile, crazy psycho killer who hates everybody.”

“Except animals.” I pointed out, turning to him for a second to give him a pointed look. “And likeable girls.”

“Hardly any girls I know around here are your kind of likeable.” Cameron said, rolling his eyes at me. “And why do you hate guys so much. We haven’t done anything to hurt you.”

“No, you didn’t.” I said with a surprising amount of bitterness. I didn’t let my sudden coldness towards this subject faze me, and I kept my face as cold and unyielding as marble in the kitchen, several feet away.

“You’re a-”

“Don’t care, go away, you are distracting me. Find Basilisk.” I cut him off, my voice as hard as diamonds.

The boys stayed silent, a smart choice, as they filed out to find my missing snake. Really, I should be the one who finds her, but they were the ones who freaked her out, and made her slither away. She was surprisingly fast, but then again, she was a snake, and snakes, if determined, would slither away as fast the speed of light to get out of danger.

I swore loudly, in russian when some мудак killed me. I turned to glare at the two, retreating. “Look what you made me do,” I yelled at them, causing them to turn around in surprise. “That мудак shot me and killed me because you distracted me!” [asshole]

They seemed to cower at my words a little before dashing off to find my venomous snake. I rolled my eyes, and made a little hissing sound, and Basilisk came out from behind the television. “Oh, good baby.” I cooed when she slithered up the side of the couch, and back around my neck like a loosely tied scarf. “Did those big scary guys who made that big scary noise scare you? Don’t worry mama will protect you.”

Basilisk hissed in approval, snuggling into my hair, and the warmth that was at the back of my neck, under my thick sheet of hair.

“Basilisk, I can’t find your snake anywhere upstairs...Holy shit!” Curtis yelled, as soon as he saw me, lounging on the couch, snake around my neck, violent cute runt kitten on my knees, and myself, starting to play a zombie-killing game.

“Found her.” I said in a sweet voice, “She came right back to momma.”

Curtis shivered, taking a step back. “Did she? Well, that seems plausible. You both are two cold-blooded things. You must enjoy each other’s company because it reassures you that you are the most evil person, so you can justify your wrong-doing. I still don’t understand why such a cute kitten would want to be anywhere near you.” He continued, and went to pick Anastasia up.
