May decided to go back to route 104 and try her luck with her map. She continued on past where she had met Professor Birch and ran up a hill. She saw a sign up ahead, but first she would have to go through the tall grass which is where she was told to find wild pokemon. With May's Torchic close in hand, she ventured forward into the grasses.
Almost the minute she walked into the grasses a wild Zigzagoon attacked. May sent out her Torchic and the Torchic used blaze. It was a critical hit and the wild Zigzagoon fainted. "Yes! Our first wild pokemon defeat Torchy! Come on back now." We need to get to a pokemart that has pokeballs soon so that we can start catching the pokemon rather than just defeating them. May continued on the route, hoping that she would soon get to the next town, Oldale town to see if they had a pokemart with pokeballs at it. May traveled through more tall grass, and didn't run into to many more pokemon. May trudged on until she finally saw the entrance to Oldale town. She rushed into town, her Torchic wasn't doing very well after all the battles.
May passed through the gates and sprinted to the closest pokemon center. She burst through the doors sweat trickling down the side of her face. May brought the pokeball her Torchic was contained in to Nurse Joy. She took the pokeball and put it on a contraption, turned it on, then after a few flashes of light, the machine powered itself off. Nurse Joy took the pokeball off the machine and returned it to May. "There! All happy and healthy!" May thanked her and then set out to the pokemart next door.
May walked through the doorway and heard a little bell jingle. The pokemart was filled with all kinds of people, children, mothers, pokemon trainers, and even business people! May walked around a little bit and found potions, that can help your pokemon when it's in a fight, and also pokeballs, to catch the pokemon you battle with. May only saw one type of pokeball at this store so she decided to get 5 pokeballs, but then as she was walking over to the counter May realized that she hadn't been in any trainer battles so she didn't have any money! May backtracked, and laid down the pokeballs in the little indentations left on the cushions they had been sitting on for so long. May window-shopped a little more then left to find some trainers to battle so that she could get some money to spend on potions and pokeballs.
Once May had exited the pokemart a trainer almost instantly walked up to her and said, "You look new. Let's Fight!"
The trainer sent in a Poochyena. May and her Torchic were ready for it. May sent in Torchic and it used the move ember. The Poochyena fainted almost instantly. The trainer was shell-shocked. Once they had regrouped they handed May 100 pokedollars. May still didn't have enough to buy a pokeball. She would have to fight more trainers before she would have enough to buy even one pokeball. May went off around Oldale town to try to ind more trainers to battle.
After May had fought some more trainers, she had accumulated 400 pokedollars. Pokeballs cost 200 pokedollars each, so she would be able to either buy 2 pokeballs and have no money left, or she could buy one pokeball and maybe get some sort of potion to help her in battle. After a bit of deciding, May chose getting 2 pokeballs and having no money left, because there were always trainers to fight and she needed more pokemon. May walked over to the pokemart and grabbed the 2 pokeballs off the shelf. When she was walking to the cash register, May accidentally bumped into someone. "Oh! I'm so sorry! I guess I didn't see you there!" May exclaimed with an apologetic expression overtaking her face. The victim of her clumsiness slowly turned to be completely facing her. The person turned out to be a man, or what she thought to be a man wearing a long trench-coat, a black fedora and sunglasses. May did not understand any of the clothing options other than the sunglasses since it was summer. May apologized again in a timid voice. The man said in a booming, yet still almost a whispering voice, "Watch where you're going kid. Never know what kind of people you're going to run into." He then walked off cackling like a witch.
May recomposed herself and walked to the cash register. "That will be 400 pokedollars please." The cashier said. May handed over the money, thanked the woman and left. Who was that guy at the store? May thought. And what did he mean by 'you never know what kinds of people you will meet...' May chose to stop worrying about it and just continue on her journey. She exited the pokemart and ventured deeper into the world of pokemon.
