Athena's POV

Remember how I said Artemis was the smart one? Well, when it comes to certain things, she's not. Like marriage. She met this ugly merman named Leeroy. He's totally in love with her, but she's only marrying him for his money. I can't understand why she would do that! Make the decision to spend the rest of her life with a guy as ugly and mean as Leeroy, just for his money?

Their marriage was announced a month ago, and now today was the wedding. I was sitting on a coral rock, with seaweed and moss floating around it. The brilliant blue sea was completely still around me.

I should've been getting ready for the dumb wedding, putting on my traditional Atlantean hair dress and jewelry on. But I just sat there, wishing I could go explore instead.

Everything was peacefull, till I heard that irritating voice.

"Athena! What do you think you're doing?!"

Aphrodite. Ugh.

"The wedding starts in 10 minutes! Why aren't you ready?" She asked.

"Please, it's not like it takes long to get ready for that!" I replied.

"Ugh! Stop being such a disgrace to the family Athena!"

I would be offended by that, but my sisters said that all the time. I am a lot different from my family. Our whole family tree is famous for our violet, silver, sharp tales. But me? Noooooooo! My tale is "sea blue" as my mom would say, which is bright blue and aqua. My scales are smooth and nice, instead of sharp and pointy like most merpeople's.

So I just ignored Aphrodite's comment.

"Athena, you're lucky I brought your jewelry and head dress with me! Now put this stuff on now!"

A minute later I had sapphire jewels dangling from my head, and several long necklaces hanging from my neck and weighing me down.

"Now c'mon!" she said yanking my arm and digging her sharp fingernails into my skin. "Oh father will be so disappointed in you!!"

As if I cared! Father already was disappointed in me enough, because I didn't turn out like my sisters. He thinks they're so successful and is ashamed to say I'm not like them. And all because I didn't want to drown a human.

Aphrodite and I swam to the little cave the wedding was in. Sea flowers were put on the cave walls to make it seem less gloomy. Mermaids and Mermen were gathered everywhere, my father at the front. When he saw us he didn't swim over to lecture me about not coming earlier, but just gave me a disappointed look.

The wedding was about to begin, but I didn't want sit on a rock for an hour watching my sister get married to a guy she didn't even love. I still couldn't believe she did that!

Artemis came out of a tunnel, with two little kids with their squat little tails trailing after her, one carrying the ring and the other singing the Atlantean song of love.

Artemis had long, diamond jewels hanging from her long, black hair. Her purple and silver tail was gleaming. She would've looked really pretty if she didn't have that serious look on er face she always does.

As the snoozefest began, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I looked up at the surface.

It was sunlight. Peaking out of the clouds and into the water. The suns light hadn't shown itself in Misty Lagoon for ten years, since the last human was drowned. This had to mean something.

When no one was looking, I snuck around the cave and swam up to the surface. I slowly lifted my head out if the water, my long, brown hair sticking to my shoulders.

And then I saw him. The sunlight seemed to be centered on him. His brown hair shining, those emerald eyes gleaming. It was like everything around me wasn't there.

Then I realized he had legs.
