Matt's POV

Life sucked right now. In only three months,my once-awesome life had gone upside down.

Before we moved, I was the star of the ninth grade lacrosse team. I was popular, I had a lot of friends, lots of girls wanted to go to dances with me, and life was PERFECT.

But for whatever reason, my mom decided we needed to move. Just because my dad died. It happened almost a year ago, and by now I was over it, and had moved on. But my mom thought we needed to "start over" and dragged me down to Florida.

She kept trying to make me feel better about moving. Saying things like, " its a really nice house" and "there's tons of people your age". But that didn't make me feel better at all. I had to completely start over! The reputation I'd been building, GONE. All my popularity, friends, GONE!

We arrived in the little town in Florida where our new house was about a week before school starts. I hadn't smiled since I found out about the move. As we drove down the streets, my mom tried to make me feel better, AGAIN.

"Honey, I know this isn't easy for you. It isn't easy for me either. But it's what we need to do." she said.

"No, no it's not, actually." I snapped. In the past, I rarely talked back to mom. But it just had been coming out of me lately, and I didn't even mean to. I was just so MAD.

Mom ignored what I said. " Matthew, please. I'll need your help with this new life."

I didn't answer. A couple minutes later, she said "ooh look Matt! That's our house!" I looked up, to see a smallish house, that was light brown with dark read tiles on the roof. There were palm tree plants by it, and mosaic paintings glued into the outdoor fireplace. Mom was right. It WAS a nice house. We drove into the driveway, and hopped out.

The moving truck arrived shortly after we did, and as soon as it opened I grabbed my boxes, and carried some of my bags with me.

We walked into the house, and I knew I'd like it. The floors had a nice tile, and the staircase looked like marble. The kitchen was made mostly of wood. The furniture was red and light green. It definitely looked liked a beach house, even though we didn't live on the beach. Mom had said the nearest beach was a place called Misty Lagoon. Wonder what it's like

Boxes upon boxes. That's what my new room looks like so far. But by the time I'm done unpacking, this place is gonna look exactly like it did before we moved.

I spend most of the day taking out my stuff and arranging it the way I want it. If its not perfect then it sucks. So what, I'm a neat freak.

And by 2:00 pm, my room looks awesome. My lacrosse posters are hung up, my bedspread is on, my clothes are in my dresser, and my desk is put in the corner.

I decided to go explore a little. Even though I'd be spending it in a completely different place, with no friends, I wanted to have a good last week of summer.

I decided to go check out that Misty Lagoon place. I'm not sure why they named it that if its a beach. Lagoons and beaches are totally different things.

As I'm walking down the street, I go in the direction mom told me to get the the beach. The streets are filled with house that look like mine. the roads are small and empty, except for some teenage girls riding their cruiser bikes.

As I'm walking, I notice people start staring at me and whispering. So what, people I'm the new kid! Doesn't mean I'm happy about it. what's the big deal if I'm new anyway? Seems like a really nice neighborhood, so people must move here all the time.

I start walking on this sandy trail that goes through a ton of trees. I notice that the sky is gray, and things seem, well, more....gloomy now.

The trail ends, and I walk out of the palm trees and enter the beach. When I do, sunshine bursts out of the clouds. About time, I was starting to think this wasn't that cool of a beach after all. But then I saw it. There was NO ONE at the beach. Not one single person, except for me.

The waves crashed against the clear, blur water, and seagulls flew up head. Why wasn't anyone here? Seemed like a really nice a peaceful beach.

I bet I could just sit on one of the rocks all day long, let my feet soak in the wet sand. So I did. Not all day, though. I would've, but then I saw something out of the corner of my eye.

Her.
