Her eyes whipped opened. In so many books the main character's eyes fluttered open gracefully, but hers just opened, one second they were closed, another they were peeled wide.

Her head felt like she was being attacked by thousands of steak knives, but she still sat up and looked around, noting the greyish light, indicating it was dawn. Ah crap, she thought, she still hadn't packed, just passed out as soon as she closed her door. Luckily her good friend Jesse had taught her how to pack, him being a young fashionista and all. Pulling her drawers out and dragging the holdall from underneath her bed, she proceeded to pile clothes into the open bag.

A couple of tops, jeans, skirts, shorts, some tight dresses to impress the priests. Actually scrap that, to impress the other youths. Mary thought. Shoving pretty much all of her wardrobe into the bag, she side-stepped over a large pile of clothes that were not joining her at Father Calloway's, and reached out to check the time on her phone. Crap. Seven O Clock, two hours.

Mary continued to stare at her phone and thought, would it be acceptable to call someone at seven o clock on a Saturday morning after a wild party that had probably resulted in much vomiting and in some extreme cases concussion. Mary rolled her eyes as she pictured her best friend, Will dancing on a table, topless and wearing extremely tight gold speedos. And he was the straight one. It ended so badly.

Mary straightened her back and quickly dialed in a number and waited for an answer.

"Mary?" It was Mina, her other best-friend. "Mary, what on earth are you doing up at this hour of the morning?"

"Well, I could ask you the same?" Mary spoke quizzically.

"As you very well know, I was completely sober last night, so an early morning walk with Mittens, is a great routine to get into and would do you a world of good, for your long term health-"

Mary cut her off.

"Mittens, your cat Mina! What the absolute hell are you doing with Mittens at this hour of the morning?"

"Well Mittens was looking really, rather overweight, so I decided a good walk for her would be good!"

"You can't walk cats Mina."

"Yes you can!"

"No. No you can't!"

"Whatever. I mean Mary, what did your parents do when you came home last night? Did they make you recite the bible like last time or-"

Mary stopped her.

"Mina, this is why I'm calling." Mary spoke sternly, "Mum and dad have decided to send me to Father Calloway's Retreat for Misguided Adolescents."

"Right, that's it! Me and Mittens are coming over."

Mina sounded stupidly determined.

"No. No you're not. Not at silly-hour."

"It's not silly-hour! There are loads of people in town!"

"Are they all hobos?"

"No Mary! There are normal, home-owners and actually, I have bumped into another person walking their cat!"

"Oh yeah, I've seen her before. Crazy cat lady." Mary said jokingly. "Anyway, are you coming over or not?"

Mina made a 'yes' type noise down the phone.
