All I hear in the hallway is buzz. Buzz, buzz, buzzing of the worker bees. We were all under that status: worker bees. Ruled by the kings and queens of this school. And now we had more to add to the mix. According to the grape vine, a famous band was going to attend our school this year.
I didn't know who they were, where they were from, or why they chose our pathetic school to go to. The first day of school was already a bust and adding famous people to the equation was going to give us a whole different output.
I try to get to my locker in the math wing, where I located it during orientation. People were mobbing everything and everyone. Delighted squeals came from the sophomore and freshman classes. Guys fist bumped and high fived each other as they passed. I tried to hide behind my curtain of hair.
I reach my locker and spin the dial three times to the right. I put in the easy breezy combo and lift the latch. My locker is barely swinging open when a clump of boys' bodies shut it close. The metal on metal clang echos, startling me, the girl diagonally below me, and a blonde boy from the group.
He had dark shades on and an award winning smile that even had its own dimple. He lifted the shades up to his forehead, which was crinkled in worry. "I'm sorry. Did I close your locker?" He asks, in a thick, Australian accent. I turn away and fumble for the combination again.
Aussie boy doesn't go away. I open the locker again, prop my knee up, and hoist my backpack over my shoulder onto my knee to unpack my stuff. "Do you talk?" I don't reply. Instead I put my materials away and sort through the day's schedule in my head, grabbing the needed books. I wouldn't come back till after third period.
"I'm kind of new here. Do you think you could show me around?" Mystery boy asks. I look him over warily. What was it that kept him talking to me? I don't want his presence, and here he was, giving me the misfortune of bearing it.
I walked off, green first-day-back schedule in hand. The boy follows me, pushing past the barricading crowds.
"That's Luke."
"Luke Hemmings."
"I can"t believed Luke actually goes to my school."
"Luke Hemmings? Damn girl, he's fine."
''No more fanfictions, Diane! He's standing right in front of me!"
Multiple reactions surface as Luke walks by my side in the hallway. He too, pulls out a green schedule from his back pocket, unfolding the creases. "We share all the same classes!" Luke cheered. I looked up at him. Stared deeply into his eyes. Trying to see what was behind those accusing pupils.
Finally I said to him, "Go away."
