There was a silence that filled the room instantly. I stared wide eyed at my little Wolf, barely a few months old, sleeping in my arms.
In truth I shouldn't have been so shocked. Considering my background, and where I'm from and what's in my blood. In truth I should have expected something like this. So should have my mom.
"Oh." was the only thing my mom was able to say. I took a deep breath "ok, so is he gonna be okay?" I asked as if nothing happened.
The doctor looked shocked by my question but quickly recovered.
"Yes um...his cells regenerate faster than any human or animal I've ever seen. He could recover from any cut, bruise, fracture, and break in a matter of minutes." I nodded. "Ok how much do we owe you?" He took a moment to comprehend the question. "Oh no, no payment as long as you let me be Wolf's primary physician. That you will allow me to be the only person to treat Wolf for as long as he lives." he finally replied.
Silence filled the room again.
"I'm sorry your name is?" I asked putting as much attitude into my voice.
"Eren O'Conner" he said
"Well let's see, how many cases like Wolf's have you dealt with?" I asked.
"Skarlit!" my mom said "stop it right now!"
I placed Wolf on the metal counter in the middle of the room. I raised my hand to my mom still looking at O'Conner.
"No, no, mom. I know what I'm doing here." My mom gave me a knowing nod from the corner of my eye. She slumped back into her chair.
I raised my eyebrows to O'Conner waiting for his respond.
"Um...none. I'm sorry." was his respond. A tingling sensation started in the tips of my fingers, the first indication he was lying to me.
I took in a deep breath "why are you lying to me Eren?" He looked baffled. "I have no idea what your talking about."
"I'm going to ask you again. How many cases like Wolf's have you dealt with?"
He took a deep a deep breath , "how did you know?" he asked.
"Oh? You don't remember me? My name is Skarlit Cress Darnel, or you'd know me better as Skarlit Cinder Martinez?" I asked.
The doctor immediately fell to his knees.
"I'm sorry my queen. I didn't know. Please forgive me ."
"No need to beg me. What's done is done." I said
When O'Conner didn't move I got frustrated.
"Oh, get up. I hate it when people do that."
He shot up like a light.
"I'm sorry my queen." he said.
"Please call me Skarlit and treat me as your equal and I will do the same."
"Yes my- Skarlit"
I picked up my little Wolf from the counter.
"Yes to your offer. Also swear that you will keep my existence a secret, and if someone comes by here by the name of Alex or Fang send him my way."
"Ok, I swear to you that no one other than the people in this room will know of your existence and I will send this young man your way if he stops by. Thank you for your generosity."
"No problem O'Conner. Mom lets go. Wolf needs food."
When we were in the car my mom turned to me and shot me a look.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing. I was just thinking how good of a queen you'll be in two years." she smiled, so did I.
"Mom let's go home please. I'm really tired." I looked down at my new puppy and my smile beamed even bigger.
Half way through the ride home I heard a small sigh. I looked at my mom, thinking it was her.
But when I heard it again while I was looking at my mom, I stared at my puppy. My face was drawn with confusion.
Wolf stared back at me. His sweet innocent cobalt blue eyes glistening in the dark.
"Was that you?" I asked him.
"Yes it was." was his reply.
I was so shocked I shot up and hit my head on the roof. I recovered quickly though. I looked at my mom then back at my puppy.
I placed a finger on my lips, mouthed the words "wait till we get home."
Wolf nodded.
I didn't want to scare my mom, especially after all the stress she been through lately.
