The following weeks were tiresome. Not only did I have Mya, Alanna, Natalie, and Ajay to take care of, but Turk and Duke came to stay with us for a while too. Their grandfather had fallen ill and their mother had to go help take care of him. So I had six children, three abandoned kittens, four horses, a husband, and a growing baby in my tummy to take care of. By this time, I was about two months into my pregnancy and it was hitting me hard. I knew this one would be difficult, I had a disorder now and the morning sickness turned into all day sickness. All my other pregnancies were a breeze and God how I hoped this one would be too, but it wasn't going to be...
I was sitting on the patio watching the kittens slurp their milk up from their bowls as the kids played in the yard. Brock was in the gym with Rick, seeing as his fight was the day after tomorrow. Yes, you heard me right. The championship fight was Saturday in Vegas against Shane Carwin. I was nervous but not as nervous as I would be come Saturday...
Ajay's screams snapped me out of my thoughts as I looked up to see him on the ground beside Mya and Surprise. They were supposed to be brushing her but it looked like she had whipped her head around and accidentally knocked Ajay down. His blood curling scream made me jump up as I saw Mya kneel beside him. I ran toward him as Mya tried to help him up but he just pushed her away. "Mom, she barely nudged him, she didn't mean too." She added as Ajay reached for me.
I picked him up off the ground and shushed him. "You're okay, baby. She didn't know you were there." I held him closely as he cried into my shirt.
"What's wrong?" Brock was heading toward us with a worried expression on his face.
I smiled. "Surprise knocked him over, he's fine." By this time, Ajay had stopped crying and was hugging my neck for comfort.
Before Brock could say anything, Alanna appeared on the patio. "Mom! I need help! I don't understand algebra!"
I chuckled and headed toward her. "Mommy! I cut my finger!" Natalie suddenly appeared at my side holding out her pointer finger that was dripping blood.
Turk appeared beside Natalie. "Mom! Duke won't do his homework!"
"He's lying!" Duke stepped out of the house.
"Everybody stop!" Brock yelled as they all went silent. "You are stressing out your mother. Stop screaming, please. Now, Mya, go help Alanna with her algebra." She nodded and headed toward the house. "Turk, Duke, stop fighting and go finish your homework or you can go stay with your mother at your grandparents."
They looked at one in another in fear then quickly went back inside. "Yes, sir!"
Brock looked to Natalie. "And how did you do that, missy?"
"I fell off my bike."
Brock smiled. "Go in the house and wash it out with water. We'll be in to fix it in a minute." She nodded and ran off as he looked to Ajay. "And you, bud, need to be more careful around Surprise. She was named that for a reason, you know." His big blue eyes lit up as he smiled at his dad. "And Casey, you aren't supposed to be lifting, remember?"
He reached for Ajay and took him from me as I frowned. "I thought he was hurt and he reached for me. I wasn't just gonna walk away."
"I didn't say walk away, just don't pick him up."
I rolled my eyes as Rick appeared with his gym bag. "I think we're done for the night, I'll see you at the airport tomorrow." He smiled before heading toward the driveway.
If only I could be as calm as he was.
"You're mad at me, aren't you?" Brock asked, letting Ajay down.
I shook my head. "I'm not mad. I just get tired of you acting like I'm a fragile object... You didn't have to go all military on the kids, they don't understand."
"That's exactly my point, Case, they don't understand. They don't understand your disorder and they don't realize how life threatening it can be because you won't tell them."
"Brock, they shouldn't have to worry about me. I'm supposed to worry about them. They're just children."
He sighed. "Yes, they are but you can't keep going on like this. They are constantly hollering for you and you always do what they ask. You can't be in six places at once. You aren't Supermom."
"I never said I was." It hurt me to hear that but a part of me knew that it was true. I was pregnant, I had another life to think about. I couldn't keep going to bed at one or two in the morning and waking up at six, my body couldn't handle it.
If I didn't stop, I could be putting both our lives in danger. But I couldn't stop being a mother to my kids...
