Chapter 1 - Stay out of this side of the City, princess.
Alaska’s POV:
Waking up on a Monday morning is most definitely one of the hardest things ever. Who doesn’t just wanna stay in bed, sleep until noon and stay inside and do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day? Oh, yeah, that’s Sunday. Why did, whoever that invented the calendar, got to put Friday so close to Monday? But Monday so far from Friday? But, like my dad likes to say, “it’s called life”. Wow dad, really? A teenager, especially a female, wants and needs her beauty sleep (even though it doesn’t really make me a tab bit beautiful...but you get what I’m saying).
Let’s just say, that my Monday morning was bound to start off bad...and the rest of the day.
I woke up at 7am, it was just enough time for me to take a quick shower, blow dry my hair - not that I really cared, but my hair would literally look like a zoo if I didn’t blow dry it first, I was in no mood to be the next lion king. When I was finally dressed, with my favorite pair of jeans, a blue tank top and a pair of boots, I walked downstairs into the kitchen to find my little sister already eating her breakfast. I as I walked up to her, a frown instantly covered my face. Where was dad? Leaving Addy in the kitchen by herself was really bad, leaving her by herself at all was really bad. When I reached her, I gave her a quick side hug, before I pecked her forehead.
“Good morning, sunshine. What are you eating?” She glanced away from the table and looked up at me with her big, beautiful emerald eyes. But something was wrong, really wrong. Just as I gave her a concerned look, I saw that something in her eyes was missing. Joy. Knowing my sister for 14 years, I knew that something was wrong.
“I don’t know,” she squeaked, a frown spreading across her forehead. Her natural, long blond curls covered her face as she bowed her head. I placed my hands gently on her cheeks and raised her head so that she once again looked at me.
“What’s wrong, Addy? Is it Dorotha?” she shook her head. “Then what’s wrong?”
“Why did mommy not come home? It’s my birthday tomorrow and she promised she would buy me a cake.” a quiet sob left her lips.
“Mommy is on a vacation, remember Addy? She’ll be home for your birthday, and guess what? I think I heard a bird tell me, that daddy is going shopping for a special someones present today.” instantly her frown disappeared and a huge smile kissed her lips. The sparks of joy reappeared in her emerald green eyes.
“A princess doll!?” she cried out happily, but I quickly held up a finger against my lips and made a “shh” sound.
“Shh, it’s a secret. Our secret, okay? Promise you can’t tell daddy.” Her smile never faded away from her lips.
“I promise, Ally.” I returned her smile and pecked her forehead again.
“I gotta go, Riley is here. Do you know where daddy is?” Just as she shook her head, dad walked into the kitchen, carrying a huge box.
“I’m right here.” he said, and placed the box on the kitchen counter, I walked up to him and gave him a hug. He returned the hug and kissed my forehead. I stepped out of his embrace and grabbed my school bag and hung it over my left shoulder.
