Joie's POV
I walked into school, everyone's eyes were on me and my twin brother, Joseph. I ruled this school, having lived here for 7 years, I have built up an amazing reputation. I am the school's baddest bitch. I get in fights, steal, skip class, you name it. Everyone is too scared to mess with me but every once and a while people think they can stand up to me and I put them back in their place.

"Hey Joie, ready for first hour?" My best friend Marie asked, walking up beside me. Marie had dark hair and an amazing figure. We were in all the same classes and pulled pranks whenever possible.

"Yeah, it's so sad Ms. Myers is off having her baby. I guess we'll just have to deal with the sub, Mr. Wilson." I said with a slight chuckle. Don't get me wrong, I love Ms. Myers, she is the best teacher I've had this year but the substitute the school brought in, Mr. Wilson, is an ass! He doesn't know our reputation yet, but he will. Marie and I took the long way around to our first hour, English. We walked in a little late, by about 14 minutes.

"Ms. McLean and Ms. Rhydell, care to explain why you are late?" Mr. Wilson angrily asked.

"Sorry, Mr Wilson, we got lost on our way." I said innocently.

"Ms. McLean, please take your seat. Ms. Rhydell, you are needed in the front office." I left the room and slowly walked to the front office. What could be going on? I saw Joseph and walked up to him. I could see an unfamiliar emotion running through his eyes. Something was wrong, I could tell that much.

"Joseph, what's going on?" I ask, resting my hand on his shoulder and looking deep in his eyes.

"Joie, it's dad." He said pulling me into a hug. Our dad was currently serving in the US army. He has been in the army since before Joseph and I were adopted.

"What about dad?" I asked, my eyes threatening to spill tears.

"He's been shot." He whispered in my ear and at that moment, I felt my heart crack into a million pieces.
------------------------------------------------
"On this day, we will not mourn the loss of Private Jensen Rhydell but we will celebrate the life he lived and what he was able to do in his life and the gifts he left us with, the memories of him. He was a great man and left a hole in our hearts, impossible to fill. Joie, would you like to say something?" Dad's best friend Private Michaels said. I walked up to the stand and took a deep breath.

"Dad, was an amazing man. He never forgot a birthday, or a Christmas or Thanksgiving or Anniversary, there was always a fresh bouquet of flowers waiting for us. And that is the very thing I will miss the most, the traditions that will no longer continue. He was my dad, a man who I told everything to, I know we all saw him in different ways, Private Rhydell, Dad, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, or friend, but he was a one in 8 billion type of person and as he used to say, 'those are the rarest of the rare'." I said tears pricking at my eyes. I walked back to my seat and listened as Joseph and Mom both talked.

Soon, we were at the graveyard and dad's coffin was being lowered into the ground. I grabbed a handful of dirt and dropped it on in the 6ft deep hole. I love you daddy. I mentally said and brushed the dirt off my hand and started walking around, not being able to take it anymore. I went to my grandma's grave, the headstone was beautiful with a empty space to plant flowers, it had her name engraved.

"Hey Grandma, how are you? It's been a while, I just wanted to say Hi and see how you were doing. You probably already know this but dad is up there with you. I hope you're showing him the ropes and helping him out. He never was the sharpest knife in the drawer but he means well."

"Joie, come on. It's time to go." Joseph said, walking up next to me and wrapping an arm around my shoulders.

-----------------------------------------

We got home and started packing things up. Mom had already bought a new house and we were moving in a few days. When we found out he passed away, mom looked for houses in her hometown, Fountain Colorado. She found her old house, it was for sale so, that's where we are moving. Carefully, I placed things in boxes and threw things I no longer wanted away.

Three days later, I was in the backseat of the car, with Marley, as we began the 12 hour drive from Surprise, Arizona to Fountain, Colorado. The drivers were following behind us in the truck and mom was driving the car. I watched as we pulled out of the driveway and down the road. Goodbye home sweet home. I thought before putting my earbuds in and letting the loud music burst through my ears. It was time I started acting like the daughter dad wanted, a good girl who followed the rules and didn't get in trouble. That is who I was going to become and I was going to make sure that dad was proud of me, he was never going to feel ashamed of me, ever again.

KIP: *slightly cries from the trunk*
JOIE: "Mom, do you hear that?"
MOM: "Yeah, let's pull over to see what it is." *Stops at gas station*
JOSEPH: *Opens trunk* "Who the hell are you?" O.O
KIP: *still crying* "I'm sorry it's just really sad, but it'll get better. I promise."
JOSEPH: *looks Kip up and down* "Mom, can we keep her?"
KIP: *climbs out of trunk and runs away unnoticed*
MOM: "JOSEPH! She is a human being not a possession to be owned. Have I taught you nothing?"
JOSEPH: "I'm sorry mom, let's at least give her a ride wherever she needs to go.
MARLEY: "You do know she just ran away right?"
KIP: *hides in the back of the moving truck* "Must know how story ends." *Twitches like a crazy person*
