Chapter 28         Charlotte POV                    Day 35 of Tour: Austin

“I can’t believe y’all are leaving today. It doesn’t feel like you’ve been here seven days already.”

I kept my eyes trained on the crossword puzzle that sat on my lap and gave Emily a curt nod. I couldn’t believe it either.

“You have to come visit me sometime, Charlotte. You and Harry both.” When I looked up she wiggled her eyebrows.

“I’m glad you like him,” I bit my lip to hide a proud smile.

“What’s not to like?” Emily threw her hands up in the air for dramatic effect. The sleeves of her pajama shirt slipped down to below her elbows. “Let me tell ya, that boy is somethin’ else.” She edged closer to me on the bed. Her bright red barrel curls tickled my cheeks as she reached over to take my magazine from my hands.

“Hey I was working on that!”

“You don’t have me fooled, Charlotte. You wanted my magazine so you could read the columns that the boys’ management told you to stay away from.” Emily slit her big green eyes at me. “I know what you really want.”

Okay.

That might have been true.

I gave her the puppy dog face.

And in return she gave me the People magazine. “I didn’t say I wasn’t gonna let you look at it. I just wanted to make a point that I know what I’m talking about.”

I stared up at her blankly. “Emily; you’re one of the strangest people I’ve met in a very long time.”

“Don’t forget it.” I giggled. “While you read up on yourself I’m going to go and make us some pancakes. Blueberry or chocolate?” She started to walk out of her bedroom as she asked.

“Chocolate!” I sang out. “Thanks!”

Emily’s painted nails waved in the air to tell me she heard it.

With the gossip magazine clutched in my hands I stared at the Eiffel Tower portrait that hung on the wall. My mind raced with what kind of awful things could be sitting in between those glossy pages. But then again… what if they weren’t half bad?

Deciding to give in to my curiosity I flipped the book open. Best dressed, movie picks of the month, the Stars Are Just Like You segment and a Paris Hilton interview later I found a half a page dedicated to me.

It was all about Charlotte Hemming.

Me.

With a shaking and reluctant spirit I started to skim the article.

“We all seem to be growing curious about the One Direction song writing contest winner Charlotte Hemming from Oregon. She’s made success in staying out of the spotlight while travelling the country with the famous band that can’t seem to catch a break. Hemming’s legendary boyfriend isn’t the only one in love with the brown eyed beauty. Every member of the band supposedly “can’t imagine life without her,” to quote One Direction’s very own Liam Payne. Fans snapped pictures of the lucky young lady in Anaheim’s Disneyland a few weeks back and then again at a VIP party in Las Vegas. An inside source recently told People that she was, “A down to earth small town girl with big time talent.” And while we don’t know much about this mystery girl it seems to be a unanimous opinion that her and Irish singing sensation Niall Horan are the hottest new couple of 2012.”

I blinked.

Was all of that seriously about me?

I smiled.
