Standing in line at two whales diner - your stomach aches for some tasty pancakes. You pull out your phone to check the time - 7.27am. You have exactly 33 minutes to get your breakfast and eat it before your first day at Blackwell Academy begins. After what feels like forever, you are finally at the front of the line.
"Sorry for the wait, hun. What can I get you?" a middle aged women asks, smiling politely at you. Before you can open your mouth to speak, a blue-haired punk styled girl walks in and completely interrupts you.
"Yo mama Joyce, can you hook me up with some bacon?!" she asks rather loudly, stopping to stand directly beside you. You try not to stare, although the intricate tattoo on her arm captures your attention for longer than appropriate.
"Chloe! I'm with a customer! Where are your manners?" Joyce shouts, clearly annoyed by her daughters actions. From the corner of your eye, you can see the disappointment on Chloe's face only for her expression to soften when she turns to face you.
"Oh uhh, sorry. Didn't see you there" she says in a quieter tone, leaning against the counter.
"That's alright" you reply, smiling to be polite.
"So what is it I can prepare for you, dear?" Joyce asks again, pulling your eyes away from Chloe's blue ones.
"Just some pancakes please, with syrup on the side"
"Sure thing - It'll just be a couple minutes, why don't you have a seat and make your self comfortable" she says before moving to start on your breakfast. You nod your head and move to a booth near the window, placing your backpack beside you. You check the time again - 7:35am - you would have to eat fast. Shifting to place your phone back in your bag, you don't notice Chloe sitting in front of you until you've finished zipping the front pocket up.
"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you. I haven't seen you around here before, is this your first time at the diner?" she asks, making herself comfortable even though you have just met.
"This is my second time. I'm new to town but I came here a couple days ago. The pancakes were so good I just had to come back" you explain, admiring her unique sense of fashion as you speak. She somehow managed to pull off the short, blue-haired beanie look incredibly well.
"Oh you're a newbie huh? Welcome to Arcadia Bay!"
"Thanks. Today is actually my first day at Blackwell. My class starts in about 20 minutes" you explain, capturing her full attention. She leans in across the table, a big smile gracing her face before she speaks.
"Blackwell? No way! I used to go there before I got kicked out! And I have a friend who goes there. Have you been around the school yet?""No, I haven't gotten the chance. I'll probably get lost trying to find my class" you admit, looking to your right to see Joyce moving around the counter carrying two plates.
"Here you go Chloe, your bacon and eggs - And pancakes with syrup on the side for your new friend" she says, setting the delicious plate down in front of you. You thank her, looking up briefly at Chloe to smile at her before digging in. You were way hungrier than you thought as you are quick to devour your entire plate. Using a napkin to wipe your mouth, your eyes scan the diner until they land on the clock - 7:50am.
"Oh shit, I have 10 minutes to get to class. I need to catch my bus" you say, moving fast to sling your bag across your shoulder. "It was nice meeting you, Chloe" you smile, turning to head for the door. Before you can take one step, Chloe grabs onto your hand stopping you from leaving.
"Wait - I have a car and I know my way around Blackwell. I can give you a ride and show you where your class is" she offers, still hanging onto your hand.
"I don't want to trouble you"
"Trust me - Its no trouble. I've got nothing better to do" she finishes, standing up to pull you out of the diner.
"I guess you decided for me" you say when you're outside, letting her pull you along towards her car. When you both reach the car, she releases your hand and moves to the drivers side.
"This is your car?" you ask, wondering if it'll even start from how old it looks.
"Hey, I didn't say it was a NICE car" she replies, rolling her eyes at you as you both enter the car and put your seatbelts on. She immediately floors it to ensure you're not late. Luckily, she manages to hit every green light leaving you with 5 minutes to get to class once she pulls into the parking lot. You both waste no time, running to the classroom.
"Come on slow-poke, it's this way" she says, running ahead of you as you struggle to keep up. When you reach the class you're both completely out of breath.
"I made it with 2 minutes to spare" you speak, breathing in heavily to catch your breath.
"High five!" she shouts, slapping her hand against yours. You can't help but smile and stare at her. If it wasn't for the extremely long line in the diner today, you may not have met her.
"Hey.. I'm glad I got the chance to run into you today" she breaks the silence as if she was reading your mind.
"Yeah, me too. You saved my ass from being late"
"So uhh, what time is your class done?"
"I'm done at 1:00, do you want to hang out after?" you ask, hoping that she isn't busy. Her face instantly lights up at your offer.
"Yeah, that'd be cool. I can show you around the rest of the school and you can come chill at my place after"
"Awesome. So I'll see you after class then". Before entering, you look through the window revealing a ton of unfamiliar faces which suddenly fills you with fear. "I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous" you admit to Chloe.
"Hey, they're going to love you" she says before bringing you in for a quick hug. You watch as she begins to walk down the hallway. When you reach for the door handle her voice causes you to pause.
"Don't get kicked out like I did!!" she shouts. You let out a laugh at her comment. The thought of getting to hang out with her after class fills you with enough courage to step in the room, facing your new classmates.
