My dad storms into the front door, not even bothering to shut it behind him. "Michelle, pack a bag for you and Mia. Now." My dad yells across the house. My mom walks out of her bedroom, a little confused.

"What, why? Where are we going?" My mom's wide eyed.

"Please, Michelle. Just do what I say." I run to my room, and hide under my covers, I don't like when my parents argue. I hear my dad rustling in his room next to mine; heavy footsteps, drawers slamming, words being mumbled that I can't make out.

"M-Michael, what happened? Why are you acting like this?" As my mom asks this, I hear a car door outside. I quietly jump out of bed, and look out my window that's facing the front yard. Three police cars are parked up front, they only have their lights flashing and no sirens. An officer starts to approach our house, I close the curtain before he can see me. Why are the cops here?

I crack my bedroom door open, not wanting to alert my parents. "Michael, tell me what is going on RIGHT NOW." My mom is whispering in the room next to me, but I can tell she is angry. I'm so scared, I don't know what to do. I can feel my heartbeat quicken, and my breathing gets heavy. Do I go to my parents, or do I go to the cops?

I decide to go to my mom. I run into my parents room where they're just staring at each other intently. I whisper in my mom's ear, "Mommy, there's cops here." She holds her breath, and slowly looks up at my dad. She places herself in front of me.

"Michael, what the hell did you do?" She slowly backs up just as he lunges at us. My mom throws me out of the way and I hit the wall. I start screaming just as two police officers come running into the room. The taller one throws my dad off my mom, immediately cuffing him. The other officer goes over to my mom, helping her up off the floor. I notice blood coming out of her nose.

The officer who has my dad forces him out towards the front door. I sneak past my mom and follow my dad. I stay quiet, not wanting to get in trouble from him or the police. As my dad gets escorted to a patrol car, he turns around and looks me dead in the eye. The officer doesn't seem to notice, but I will never forget the look in his eyes, and more importantly, the words he says to me.

"I will be back for you and your mother. I love you my little Mia. And I will come back for you."
