Kurloz was dreaming. He could see the watery blue-purple haze hanging over the image before him. Two trolls, one with polka-dotted pants, one with a green jacket. One with the upper hand in battle. Kurloz could see that the one with wild, tangled hair was beating the one with claws. He couldn't help but to notice the resemblance between himself and the troll beating up the other one. Suddenly, both of them turned around.
It was Meulin being beat to death. Kurloz tried to reach for her, to save her, but something stopped him. The other troll... had Kurloz's face. He was repeatedly smashing a club into Meulin's body, who was listless
Something flashed before his eyes, but Kurloz was too stunned to see it. He screamed.
♥
Meulin was awake before he was. Kurloz was screaming his throat out, writhing in bed, trying to block out the image of Meulin's limp form.
"Kurloz! What happened? What's wrong? Kurloz, speak to me!" Meulin cried out. She straddled him in hopes of stopping his shrieks of terror.
"Kurloz! Please!" She began to cry. All at once, Kurloz stopped. "M-meulin.... you're alright," he said, gathering her into his arms. He sobbed while Meulin stroked his hair, his face. They stayed like that for hours. Kurloz ran his hands over Meulin's body many times, making sure she wasn't hurt. All the while, Meulin whispered into Kurloz's ear.
"Kurloz. I..." Meulin started. She couldn't finish her sentence. "Meulin? What is it?" She didn't seem to hear. Cupping her face in his hands, Kurloz dared go into her mind and speak to her.
Is everything okay? I'm not sure. What do you mean? I... I don't think.... I don't think I can hear anything....
"Oh Meulin...." Kurloz said before breaking down. "I'm sorry, Meulin, I'M SORRY," he cried out. Meulin held him, not hearing his words, but knowing the meaning of them. She forgave him.

When Meulin finally left to go see someone who could heal her, Kurloz sat in the corner of his hive.
It's all my fault. Meulin has gone deaf because of me. My scream ruined her ears. It's all my fault....
Then, something popped into Kurloz's mind. He stood in front of his mirror, stuck out his tongue, and bit down as hard as he could. Purple blood dripped from his mouth, but Kurloz didn't stop. Moments later, his tongue landed on the floor in a puddle of purple.
Now to find a needle and thread.

Meulin looked at the note the healer had given her. The damage to her ears was irreparable and would most likely be a permanent fixture. She sighed. How was Kurloz going to take this? She walked up to Kurloz's hive and yelled, "Purrloz!" No one answered the door. She tried to knock on the door, but once her hand touched it, the door squeaked open. A sharp stench hit her nose. Blood.
Frantic, Meulin ran all around the house, calling for Kurloz, all the while she followed the smell of blood to one of the rooms upstairs. The scene before her made her halt. Kurloz held a needle in one hand and thread in the other. His mouth, dripping with blood, was sewn shut.
"Kurloz! Oh my god, Kurloz. Did you do this to yourself?" Meulin wailed. She pulled the items out of his hands and threw them out the window. "Why, Kurloz, why?" Kurloz didn't answer. Instead, he knelt down and dipped his finger into a pool of his own blood. He wrote out his answer on the floor.
It's all my fault.
"No, Kurloz, it wasn't your fault! It wasn't!" Meulin cried, falling to her knees to hold his face in her hands. "I forgive you. but it wasn't your fault either way. Please, speak to me!" He shook his head and pointed to something slimy in the corner of the room. "Oh Kurloz...." Meulin cried and hugged Kurloz. Tears slipped out of his eyes as well.
"I still love you,Kurloz. It wasn't your fault."
It was.
