Ophelia's POV

"Come on Ophelia, it isn't that bad. Your mate will turn up soon enough."

"You don't understand Aisling. You met Aric the night of your 17th birthday. My heart feels so sad that I still haven't found him yet. Plus, all of the reporters and whatnot do not help, because they always bother me with the same questions, 'Where's your mate princess?' 'Are you confused as to why he hasn't come to your parties?' 'What do your parents have to say about this?' I'm getting sick and tired of having to avoid those questions."

"Okay fine. Let's hope he finally turns up, yeah?"

"I hope."

Aisling gave me a sympathetic smile. She has been my best friend since we were about 6 years old. She had the ability to read me the best so she knew that I felt as though finding my mate was a lost hope, yet she still tried to cheer me up with Oreos, blood bags, and movies before every one of my parent's silly 'coming out' Balls.

We turned and looked at my clock on the nightstand to find that it was 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

"Do you want to go for a swim?" I turned to Aisling and asked.

"Sure. we can swim for an hour, then we must gather our hand maids to help us get ready for the ball." I smiled and went to find two bikinis.

As soon as we stepped outside and sat by the pool, an alluring aroma entered my nostrils. "Do you smell that?" I turned to Aisling and asked. she got a confused look on her face and shook her head. "Smell what Ophelia?" She asked.

It smelt like fall, but different. Sweet and woodsy with a heavenly vanilla mixed in with it. "Never mind. It must just be my imagination."

We had our afternoon swim, and headed back to my room inside the palace.

I rang for the maids, and one by one, a maid came in and assisted with doing Aisling and I's makeup, Hair, and dresses. After we were finished we looked at each other and squealed in delight. "Your dress is beautiful Ophelia!" I was wearing a black floor-length dress with delicate gold designs etched into the skirt. "So is yours!" Aisling was wearing a simple black dress with big, beautiful pearls to accent it. something Audrey Hepburn would have worn.

It was 6:55, and I was to make my grand entrance at 7 o'clock on the dot. Arm in arm, Aisling and I walked down to the ballroom. She hugged me good luck and walked in to the main entrance of the grand hall. There it is again, that delicious smell!

After getting over my confusion, the head guard, Kellam asked me if I was ready to go in. I smiled and nodded, so he tapped on the door, from the other side, I could hear his second in command announce, "Now presenting her royal majesty, Princess Ophelia Ashcroft!" the Grand doors opened and I stepped into the room. Father was there waiting for me. He took my arm and started to lead us down the stairs. The aroma was over powering, and the urge to look for someone was tugging at my heart. My eyes scanned the room and stopped once they found a beautiful pair of ocean blue eyes. My heart exploded with love and it was then I realized where the alluring scent came from. Mate.
