Before opening the Pandora's box of a mate that I have, I wanted to change out of the enormous ballgown that I was wearing. I asked Lucian to take a seat in front of the fireplace and entered my Dressing room. I closed the door and stepped out of the dress.

While searching for something to put on, my closet door burst open, revealing a frantic looking Aisling.

"What happened? Why did you run out of there? Who is that gorgeous being sitting in front of your fireplace?! Is that your mate?? What the hell are you doing in here???? Are you okay? Where are your clothes? I need answers woman!" A torrent of questions came out of her mouth as she rushed towards me.

"Aisling! You scared the daylights out of me! Don't surprise me like that, you little trash panda! The man sitting in my room is my mate, Lucian Volkov, the prince of the Northern Kingdom. I ran out of the ball room because of all of the people finding out about my mate as well. It was overwhelming and my anxiety was insane. I am naked, because I was changing out of my dress before I went to talk to Lucian. It is my house, after all. Regardless, I need you to take your leave and I will give you details tomorrow. But first, help me find something else to wear please!" I grabbed her hand and grinned.

My sweet friend's face lit up like a light bulb as realization struck. " Your mate! You found your mate! Oh this is so exciting! I will hold the rest of my questions until tomorrow. Let's get you something to wear!"  Aisling dragged me over to the lingerie section of my closet, while a sly grin sat on her face.

" Oh no no no ma'am!" I stopped in my tracks knowing what my friend was thinking.

Aisling's grin grew wider as she said " I agree! Why wear anything?!"

She started cackling and my face turned bright red.

" No seriously Aisling. We just really need to talk." I slipped on an emerald green summer dress, let my honey blonde waves tumble out of the ballerina bun it was in, and patted Aisling on the back right before walking towards the door of my dressing room.

"Ophelia!C'mon. At least let me have a little fun!" she sighed and pouted playfully before we both slipped out the door into my bedroom.

"Good luck," she whispered into my ear before squeezing my hand and exiting my room.

I slowly approached Lucian who was bent over in his seat, head resting in his hands. My heart ached because it knew that I should be comforting my mate rather than confronting him.

I rested my hand on his shoulder and he looked up at me. We locked eyes and I gave a slight nod indicating that I was ready to talk.

Lucian stood up with a grim look on his face and followed behind me, dragging along two oversized, white, fluffy beanbag chairs.

I led Lucian out onto the balcony connected to my room. It was dark and cool outside, the summer breeze wafting my mate's alluring smell all around me.

Settling in, I mentally prepared my questions for him and held my hands in my lap.

Lucian slouched in the chair, letting out an enormous sigh. "What would you like to know, my love?"

"What was that back there, Lucian? I know your parents, but I was never told about you. Why?"

"You know that my father is a vampire, and my mother is a hybrid wolf, yes? Due to what kind of hybrid she is, mixing father's genes with mother's genes would have made their child public enemy number one..." Lucian trailed off, seeming to show that this was a hard topic for him to speak of.

I furrowed my brows, confusion clouding my mind. "I thought your mother was elvish and wolf. How is mixing that with a vampire bloodline bad?"

Lucian ran his hand down his face, a look of distress crossing his lovely features, " That is what my parents tell everyone in order to not draw too much attention to themselves. The only reason that I am telling you the truth is because you are my mate, and I would never lie to you or hurt you in any way. The truth about my bloodline is..."

Right as Lucian was going to tell me his big secret, a silver bullet whizzed past me and struck Lucian in his left shoulder, barely missing his heart.
