-Sage's POV-

Dinner settled slowly.  I jogged back up to my room, shut my door, and collapsed on my bed. I was thinking about an upcoming football game slowly drifting in and out of sleep when- RING.

Shit.

I lazily rub my face and yawn, getting the nerve to pick up the phone. I sit up dizzy with spots covering my vision in every direction. The phone stopped and started again. Who needs me this time at night.

I looked over to my desk with my clock and phone on it. The clock read 11:18 P.M.

I walked to my desk, checked who was calling; Alex. Shit. Why? I forgot he called. I picked it up and put it on speaker.

"CRUISE! I've. Been calling all night. What's going on?"

Stunned, I collected my thoughts, "Been thinking and ate with the fam. Why?"

"Listen, Cruise, I need to meet up with you again. It's urgent and I'm worried." I took a seat in my chair.  Alex sighed, "So...?"

"When do you want to meet?"  I had both arms propped on my desk. I shook my head this could end bad.

I heard a voice in the back, "Who's that?" Alex huffed in the phone and away from it stated, "Mandy."

Alex put his attention back on the phone, "20 minutes at the Dash Inn?"

"Alright, Alex."  I hung up, put a shirt on and grabbed my keys.

The Dash Inn is this hangout the sport kids go to. The inside represents an 80's diner. Don't ask me why they all go there when almost all they sell is desert but it's a hangout spot.

I was about to walk out when I came face to face to my father, "Pa. Hi. Must go, be home soon. Clare wants to ask you something."

"Son-" I shut the door before I could answer.  Whatever Alex need to say, I can't miss. I ran to my other vehicle, a 1989 Chevy S10. It's perfect for short drives.  I bought the pick-up and had to replace the engine and fix the interior but she's a beauty.  My Pa and I spent three months working on it.  Plunging the keys into the ignition I waited for the road to clear and sped down the road.

I stopped outside of a place I once came often to, before I started to skateboard.  I shook my head. I should head in. I grabbed my keys and walked in. Sitting in the back was Alex. I watched cautiously as he fumbled around, impatient.

Casually, I walked over to my friend and sat down. Alex sniffles and looked up, from there I saw the tears.

Alex rarely cried. He was never one to cry. He always held his emotions in. This must be important.

"It's all my fault..." He looked back down.  What? What does that mean?

"Alex?" I waited for him to go on.

"I invited Cameron.  God, Sage, I should've saw it coming..."

I stared in shock, Alex invited the kid to the party. How does he know him?

He looked up, eyes red, "Sage, I'm afraid what the outcome may be,"

"What do you mean?"

"I can't say..." He muttered.

A perky waitress stopped at our booth, "May I order y'all somethin'?"

I look at her, is she oblivious to what's going on. "Fine. Thanks." She wandered off with a curtsy.

Alex rose from his seat, "I shouldn't have asked you to come. Bye cruise.."

Alex left without another word leaving me with thoughts midair.
