"Hey, Quintasha; I'm Reid Cenna. Don't worry, I know this part well. If you tell me where your house is, I'll take you there."
"Um, I came here only today- I don't know much..." I say, now nearly in tears.
"Quinta- can I call you Tasha?"
"Sure." I like this guy.
"Tasha, lemme see. Why did you come here?"
"My dad got transferred here. And Mom and I just moved in today-"
"Wait, you said Linck, right?" I nod and his pale face takes on a thoughtful look, "Is your dad Andrew Linck?"
"Yes, how did you-"
"I was in town a while ago, and I heard someone say, 'Andrew Linck's wife and daughter just moved in today with him'. I've met your dad before there. I'll take you."
"Thank you, Reid."
"No problem."
Reid's eyes light up when he realises that I've decided to trust him whole-heartedly. I mean, who wouldn't trust a friendly guy they met in the middle of a forest? Not me!
And look at him! I think God added a touch too much of perfection to him when-
"You coming?" Reid's voice snaps me out of my reverie.
"Right. Sorry, I just zoned out a bit..."
His eyebrows furrow, probably worried.
"Don't worry; it's something I do a lot." I say, my tone reassuring.
His eyebrows come down, and he smiles.
His smile is so hear- oh, right, I am to follow him now. I pick up my pace and am soon walking by his side. When he notices, he walks faster.
After trying a couple more times, I give up. He keeps doing the same thing.
"And, we're here, Tasha!"
I look up in surprise to see that we are, indeed, home. Turning around, Reid gives me a heart-stopping smile, bringing out one of my own in response.
"Oh my Gosh, Reid, thank you so much!" I gush, a bit overcome by joy and admiration for the handsome guy in front of me.
"So you want me to come in, make sure you're okay?" Reid asks.
"Sure, you don't need to ask me, come on in!" I say, fishing the key out of my front jeans pocket and unlocking the front door.
Waltzing in, I observe that Mom is home and sitting by the dining table. Her face lights up with a smile as she focuses on me and me only.
"Had a pleasant walk, Quin?"
"Yeah, um, I kinda got lost, but I managed to get back, so..." I trail off, settling down on the couch and gesturing to Reid to sit down. He nods and plops down next to me.
Mom looks at me and comes over, handing me a cup of something.
"Ooh, hot cocoa!" I say and look at Reid's amused eyes before I continue, "Do you want some?"
"No, I don't, honey." Mom tells me, while Reid says, "Nah, I'm good."
"Mom!" I say, my voice angry. Why is she treating Reid so hostilely?
"What? You like hot cocoa, Quin; not everyone does..."
"Fine."
Mom teasingly slaps my shoulder, pats the sofa behind Reid's shoulder and goes into her room, telling me she has some 'work' to attend to.
"So, um..." I don't know what to say.
"When's your dad returning? I want to meet him again!" Reid tells me, his voice eager.
I look at the giant dial on the wall.
"He'll be here any moment." I say, about to add more when the door clicks open and Dad walks in.
"Hey, Quin!" Dad greets me and light-heartedly banters with me for a bit before he departs to take a shower. I'm surprised he didn't mention Reid once, nor did Reid utter a single word the entire time Dad was talking. He only sat there with a polite smile adorning his face.
I shrug it off. Maybe he doesn't have anything to tell Dad, so he didn't speak. I don't need to become a Sherlock Holmes and figure out his motives and such...
Reid, I like. So no annoying him and stuff, now...
