WARRIORS OF THE ELEMENTS : THE INFINITY GAUNTLET

CHAPTER 1

            “Jason! Jason! JASON GRANDEUR!!!!!!” said a slightly enraged Elana Clark. “Huh! What??? Who died???” asked Jason Grandeur. “Nobody died yet. But they might if you don’t turn down the temp of your flame!!” “Oh. Yeah. Sorry Ellie.” Boy! thought Jason. Ellie sure is angry!!! “But can’t I have just a little fun???” asked Jason Grandeur.

            “If you want to go to the Principal again you’re very welcome to!!! You HAVE to be careful in Chemistry, Jase. Last time you did that everything spluttered on your chem. apron and it burned through your clothes!!! There was quite a big hole if I remember correctly.” Ellie said and laughed slightly. “Fine Ellie. I’ll try not to be so careless again. I’m sorry.” This time Jason really was sorry. He absolutely hated angering Ellie. She was so sweet and always looked so happy.

            Suddenly there was a VERY loud GONGG-like noise filling the school. That of course was their bell to signal the end of a period. This one though, signaled recess.  “Well class, there goes the bell. That ends your Chemistry period. Now go out and enjoy yourselves and have fun!” said their Chemistry teacher, Mrs. Fleming. Jason sighed. Didn’t Mrs. Fleming realize that they were 14 year-olds???? She still treated them like kids using words like “Have fun” and “enjoy yourselves”. Sheesh.

            Jason and Elana both walked out on the lush green lawn of Empire High to their normal sitting place – a bench in a nice shady corner of the school. Elana took out her iPod and started playing a Justin Bieber song. Why do girls like that guy??? Wondered Jason. I mean come on WHAT is soo special in him??? But of course he didn’t say this ’cause Ellie would give him a looong explanation of Justin. Boy, he had had enough of those.

Jason took out an apple and started eating it. Man, that was good he thought. “Hey Ellie?” “Yeah?” she asked. “Where’s Evan?” “Oh I don’t know. Must be around here somewhere searching for us.” Evan, Jason’s younger brother, always hung out with them at recess even though they were two years older.

Suddenly Ke$ha’s  “Tik Tok” could be heard. Ellie and Jason both looked at each other. “Evan” they simultaneously said. Evan Grandeur a 12 year old in blue jeans and a white T-Shirt came from behind the tree grinning from ear to ear.

“Why so happy?” asked Jason. “Guess what bro?? I just got Ke$ha’s first studio album – Animal!!!!!!” said Evan obviously unable to contain his excitement. “Wait. What was that Ev??? YOU GOT ANIMAAL???????!!!!!!!! NO WAY!!!!!” Evan and Jason were huge Ke$ha fans. And now Jason couldn’t believe his ears.

“Bro you rock!!” said Jason and raised his hand for a fist bump. Evan bumped it with full enthusiasm. Ellie sighed. “Boys” she thought. “All the same!” Evan and Jason listened to some of Ke$ha’s songs and then suddenly Jason abruptly paused the music. “Hey! What gives bro??” asked an angered Evan. “Bro we’re supposed to see Mrs. Conner!” said Jason “Uh-oh. I forgot!!!” said Evan. “You mean we forgot.” said Ellie. Athena Connor their environment teacher had asked them to meet her today in recess for an environment project.

But to the trio, it was simple, she wanted to test if their powers could make a plant that took a month to grow, grow in a minute.

Together they made their way towards the greenhouses. “Hey guys?” “Yeah Ev?” Jason asked. “What’s up?” Evan taking a deep breath answered, “Bro, you remember what dad was researching on before he disappeared? The Japanese Elemental Symbols?” Jason stopped and looked at Evan straight in the eye. “Yeah. I do. Why?”

“Well you see I went to the library to do some research, and I found the symbols. I asked Hyosuke to draw them for me.” Hyosuke was an exchange student from Japan. “Here look.” He showed them the symbols – each in their elemental colours.

                  火        地        水        風        空

       “So look. What if we tried to draw these symbols in their actual colours? Like if I draw the Earth Element Symbol in brown and Ellie draws water in blue, what do you think would happen??? ’Cause like look at this – Fire that’s you Jase and Earth is me and Water is Ellie! See! It sorta like matches up!”

            “Hmm... I don’t know about that” said Ellie. “I think you’re correct Ev, but...” “Little Bro, I think you’re right!” said Jason cutting off Ellie. “But if I draw fire, something might catch fire. If you draw earth it might cause a landslide or somethin’. But I’m guessing water might be safe. Ellie?”

            “Umm Jase?? Whatabout floods or whirlpools?” asked a very scared Ellie. “Don’t worry Ellie. Nothing will happen.” Jason seems very calm about this thought Ellie and Evan.

            Ellie took a deep breath and said, “Fine. I just hope nobody gets hurt ’cause of me.”

            Ellie asked for a blue pen and paper from Evan and looked at the symbol and started to draw it on the paper.

            After she was done what happened next made the trio hang their mouths open with their jaws nearly falling to the floor.

            First the newly drawn symbol began to grow a bright blue. Next the whole paper was engulfed in a blue light. Then finally when the light subsided, on the nearby parapet which Ellie had put the paper on to write, now sat not a paper, but a rectangular block of water!!!

             The trio’s jaws looked like they might actually fall off!! Evan was the first who spoke. “I don’t believe it!!!” he said. The paper turned into water!!!!!!! Yessssssssssss!!!!! Booooyeah!!! We’re supernatural!!!” Ellie and Jason both looked at him with the “You’ve gotta be kiddin’ me” look. “What?” asked Evan. Ellie sighed and said “Nothing”. She lifted the block and squeezed it. The water all fell to the floor and seeped into the ground by rolling on the tiles on the floor. “So it’s true then.” said Jason. “What do you mean Jase???” Ellie asked curiously. “I mean that that these are symbols of power.”

            Just then a shuriken, yes a shuriken sailed past them and straight through the wall and embedded itself in the tree in its path. The trio’s eyes widened unimaginably.

            “Why you’re absolutely right Jason!!” said a female voice behind them. All three of them turned around and if their eyes could get any wider, they did.

            “Right.” said Evan. “Mrs. Conner’s a Japanese ninja.”
