"Hey, you look like you just saw a ghost. Or maybe, you just saw a very handsome guy," He smirked.
"Ha ha, funny." I said sarcastically.
"Come on Lara, I was just joking, chill! So, how are you?" As if he cares. Of course he don't.
"Good." I answered without showing any evidence of emotions.
"How long have you been working here?"
"Half a year, and I still need this job to survive the other half. So if you don't mind, I need to get back to work. Thank you and enjoy your drink. Have a nice day." I said while faking a smile.
"As you wish. And by the way, nice seeing you again, Lara." He added and he was gone.
This is too much in one day. First, Jake, and now Harry? Who's next? No, you know what, I can't handle more of them now. I just want this day to end. And I do hope that that dinner with Jake could at least make this day any good.
My shift at the cafe has ended. I nodded a 'bye' to my boss and made my way out of the cafe. "Hi Lara!" someone hissed.
"Harry? What are you doing in here?" I blurted.
"Since you told me you can't talk because you have a work to do, so I decided to comeback and maybe we can talk while I'm walking you home." He teased.
"Thanks, but no thanks."
"Geez! Why are so snappy about my offer?" He looks quite pissed.
"Because I can walk myself home?" I said - unsure of my answer.
"Please?" Now he's using the 'puppy eyes' technique.
"No."
"Please, Lara. Pretty please?" Oh no. He is kind of cute when he's doing that.
"Fine." I gave in.
"You can't resist this eyes of mine, can't you?" He smirked.
"Oh, Harry. Don't be so proud of yourself." I preached.
We made our way to my house. The walk was very quiet and awkward. As the cold breeze touches my skin, I am starting to get nervous. I don't know but I do find him intimidating. I'm not getting this feeling towards him before. Do i need to talk? Shall I break the silence? Because the silence is making this thing a lot worse.
"So uhm, I never got the chance to return the question earlier. How are you, Harry?" I mumbled.
"Great. I just came back from my parent's home. I stayed there for a while after our graduation."
"Why are you here? Not to sound rude or so." I protested.
"I'm looking for a job."
"Why here? You can find a great job in other cities, like New York." I proclaimed. This city is a small town. You can't really find a great opportunity in here and that's the reason why I am working on a coffee shop. But I never stopped looking. While I'm having this job, I am still trying to find another opportunity somewhere outside this city. I just need enough investment to start over. But this boy, why would he prefer to stay here? He is capable enough to start a living in such a big city like New York.
"I don't know. It's like there is some sort of power or something that pushes me to choose this city as my starting point for my career." Wow, that's weird.
"More of like, you're getting this feeling that you're sort of destined to be here?"
"Yes! And thankfully, I saw you."
"So what's my role on that destiny of yours?"
"I feel comfortable to be back in this town. At least, I knew someone that could help me. Right?" Oh yes right. He needs something. Here we go again.
I didn't answer. I am right. He didn't change. He is still the same Harry that I knew from college. When he offered to walk me home, I was already trying to convince myself that somehow, this guy could've changed. But no. He didn't. And here I am, so afraid of making a fool of myself AGAIN. The rest of the walk remained quiet, 'til we reached our destination.
"Thanks for walking me home." I said blankly.
"Welcome."
"Oh, and Harry, you never changed." I sarcastically said.
"What do you mean?" He is confused. What the! He barely have an idea of what he is doing? There is this part of me that wants to slap him and tell him how do I freaking feel about him. But I just can't.
"Nothing. Good night." I never got the chance to hear if he answered back because I closed the door and ran to the kitchen. I saw Ali, just about to prepare for our dinner.
"Ali, I need to tell you something. Please don't get mad." I stuttered.
"You're cancelling are you?" Now she is sad.
I can't answer back. I don't want to her face getting upset and disappointed at the same time.
"I'm so sorry, Ali. I really am," I whined.
"Calm down, ya' girl. I'm okay. I'm just playing around. So tell me, where are you going tonight?" She smirked.
"I'll be having a dinner with Jake."
"Dinner? As in date? Oh my gosh, Lara. You did have feelings for him before right? Is it kicking back again?" She teased.
"God, Ali, no. My feelings are not coming back. And it's not a date. Just a plain dinner, friendly one." I argued.
"Fine. Go get dressed! You wouldn't want to have Jake waiting. Because I might say something."
"Ali!" I yelled.
"Kidding. Okay, seriously, go get dressed."
"Thanks, Ali. You're the best." I chuckled.
I ran to my room and started to prepare for this dinner. I am nervous and excited. Is it because my feelings really going back? It's been so long since the last time I saw him. I think it's normal to get nervous, right? Jake is such a kind person. How come he is still willing to be friends with me AGAIN, even though I dumped him before. Because if I was in his position, I would have hatred for the person who did it to me.
I wasn't able to ask him what should I wear. Should I go casual or semi-formal or formal? I decided to text him. I don't want to ruin this night by simply wearing the wrong type of dress.
To: Jake Wells
Hi! What should I wear? - Lara
I paced back on forth on my room while waiting for his reply.
Semi :) - Jake
I decided to wear a peach dress and a wedge. I pulled up my hair into a bun to give a nice and neat look. Ali is right. I do feel like I'm going on a date.
"Lara!" Ali yelled.
"Coming,"
I made my way down and I saw Jake standing by the door beside Ali.
"Take care of her." Ale pleaded.
"Ali, you're my bestfriend, not my mom." I laughed.
"Don't worry, I'll bring her back safe and sound." He smirked.
"So uhm, shall we?" I asked. We need to go before Ali say something that isn't acceptable at all.
He offered his arms and I took it. I hope this night would be ace.
