I really enjoyed the humour of this very short story. It was funny all the way through, but the twist at the end caught me out and made me laugh out loud. I love how so many other readers said the same in the comments!
The way the writer combined a sense of mystery, comedy and slapstick into a scifi story was brilliant and kept me hooked right to the end.
I strongly recommend writers to take a close look at the composition. With its hint of the gothic scifi fairytale sitcom, it keeps focus and reels the reader in very neatly indeed. HollyGoliterary uses stand-up comedy tricks as she builds up the layers of hope and disappointment til she reaches the final reveal!
I wouldn't say it is quite like anything else I have read in scifi, but the personality of the protagonist, obsessing over fine clothes and perhaps appearances over reality, brings to mind the classic children's morality tale by Hans Christian Anderson: The Emperor's New Clothes .
What does happen when the hero of this tale puts on his new suit? Its All in the Timing!
