An officer runs into trouble at work. There's a murder and a strange death right off the bat. The main character starts to piece together clues about what is going on.
A bit of a loner, Jared gets no support in his regular life. The tale takes a terrifying turn as the Jared, the cop, gets kidnapped and taken to a secret research facility. Restrained among other inmates, he is horrified to discover what is actually being done to people, and what will be done to him.
The plot gets deep into the officer's mind as he struggles to survive.

Review :
The writer created a relateable character in the officer, Jared, and worked outwards from a fairly normal workplace setting to the absurd and terrifying world of the research facility. At first it was intriguing to read, but it grew to be more and more intense.
meharrjdawg 's skilful use of language and phrasing does much to reinforce the insanity of the prison setting with subtle and agonizing irony. The 'empathy' of the female warder who normalized extraordinary inhumanity will linger long in my mind. And yet the story moved on apace. I had to know what was going to happen next. I couldn't put the book down as the plot developed and the intensity of each chapter kept me hooked.
It's like Shawshank Redemption mixed with The Matrix. The original setting is a regular prison, like Shawshank Redemption, but from a cops point of view while the secret facility is high tech like The Matrix.
It's really unique, and it had twists that had me shocked and amazed.
This book had me sitting on my heels for most of it, and then it knocked me over with it's surprises. I really feel like it's one of the absolute best books I've read in a long time. It brought up some things that were really interesting and eye opening.
The author meharrjdawg has built a horrifying but thought-provoking world with characters that are really diverse, which I liked a lot. Locked Up is truly terrifying in places, and will keep you on the edge of your seat right through to the finale.
It is a Featured book on Wattpad and highly deserves it top ranking in the Science Fiction Hot Lists. I totally recommend you read Locked Up.
