Chapter 4
Lunch ended and we went off to fourth hour: Biology. Dylan was in this class. He sat with a group of his friends. They were all laughing and stuff. Sam, Alex, Bree, and Mark were in here too. The teacher put me in the seat next to Dylan. When I sat my stuff down, neither he nor his friends seem to have noticed me. I shrugged and went over to Sam and the others.
"Dude it sucks to be you." Alex said grimacing. I shrugged.
"He doesn't seem that bad to me, so far."
"Well, good luck." Nicholas said grinning. I smiled and went back to my seat and sat down. It wasn't until after the bell rang and the teacher got the students' attention that Dylan noticed me. He looked really shocked to see me sitting there.
"When did you get here?" He whispered to me still surprised. I rolled my eyes.
"I've been in here the whole time, only I was talking to Sam and the others." I whispered back.
"Oh." I couldn't help but smile. We turned our attention back to the front. Biology had to be the easiest class I've had all day. I understood everything the teacher was talking about, whereas Dylan, I noticed, did not. I chuckled at his confused expression. He mock glared at me. I rolled my eyes. The teacher gave us time to work on our homework, and right when the teacher stopped talking Dylan turned to me and asked, "Can you help me out with this stuff? I don't understand any of it."
"Sure." I said shrugging. He got most of it after ten minutes and didn't ask me to help him anymore. When everyone started to put things away, I looked over at Dylan. He wasn't talking to his friends. I want to ask him about his at home life, but his friends are nearby and I don't think he wants to talk about it in front of them if he even wants to tell me. I'll just have to wait. The bell rang and I followed Nicholas, Zach, Bryan, and Aimee to our next class: Music Appreciation. It turns out Dylan was in this class too, but none of his friends were in here. I've got my chance to ask him. The teacher put me in the seat next to him like the teacher did last hour. Nicholas and the others were on the other side of the room.
"Hey, you're in here too, huh?" I nodded.
"So what all happened after I went missing?" I asked honestly curious or appeared to be. He looked surprised.
"You never asked the others?" I did...
"No, I was too busy trying remember them." I said shrugging and I wasn't lying either. I was trying so hard to remember my cousins that I gave myself a migraine. Sad I know, but I felt really bad for forgetting them.
"Well, I guess you could say we all went into a sort of depression and were desperate to find you. We drifted and..." He started to look uncomfortable and anxiously glanced in the direction of Nicholas and the others and then looked back at me. "I kind of ignored them and took things out on them, which again I feel terrible for doing that, and I found myself a new set of friends and hung out with them. I didn't really associate with them until these last few years, which I'm really, really sorry about it all."
"Why?" I asked curiously. He hesitated.
"I guess you could say, my at home life changed." Ah, I thought so.
"What happened if you don't mind me asking?" He sighed.
"My mom passed away and my father went into depression and started drinking."
"He doesn't hurt you does he?" I asked my eyes wide. He grimaced.
"Don't tell anyone, but yes he does and I've taken it out on Nicholas and Zach and I'm really, really sorry for all of it, I really am." He said barely above a whisper. He looked like he was going to cry again.
