Jump!
That's all I can think while sitting here,
Watching those before me.
Seeing the ones that fall.
Noticing they are all different.
The bigger it is, the more life you have,
The more holes is the faster you go.
I can see everyone's journey as if it's a dream.
The only future I cannot see is my own.
You two are next!
I hear this as if I'm waking up.
Like it's a new day.
I look at the person going with me.
Strangers whose paths collide.
Dawn.
Hurry!
Standing at the edge, we look into the white wall.
I must make the biggest decision of my life, the game changer.
To jump or not to jump.
Like my decisions of college or marriage. Kids.
Morning.
Pushed!
With no more time to wait, the stranger and I depart.
Our paths momentarily intertwinning.
Twirling, twisting, and falling. I have no control.
Before pulling the chord I glance at my new partner.
He motions that we do it together.
Mine opens, bright and beautiful. His doesn't.
I watch him tumble into the unknown.
Midday.
Wind!
Gliding steadily with more control, I watch those around me.
I pass those chutes bigger than mine.
I watch those smaller, with holes, or haven't opened drop beside me.
All the perils and the hurt which passes me.
Still I know that I'm bright. I'm big.
Looking down I sway as I'm almost on the ground.
Afternoon.
Nighttime.
Looking around I see those unbuckling their giant parachutes to go home.
The ones with the smaller parachutes wobbling because of the unsteady ride.
The ones who had the parachutes with holes bandaging their wounds.
Lastly, the ones who lay on the ground motionless because their parachutes didn't open.
Everyone's destination is different. All I can ask is:
Why

Poems
PoetryThis is a book of all the poems I've written over the years. Most were mandatory for school but I feel like I should put them out there. This book will never be complete unless I decide to make different volumes/categorize it differently. Enjoy!
