We were on own way back to her flat from the dress shop, windows down, music blasting and singing to Blink 182 at the top of our voices.
"In the car I just can't wait
To pick you up on our very first date
Is it cool if I hold your hand?
Is it wrong if I think it's lame to dance?
Do you like my stupid hair?
Would you guess that I didn't know what to wear?
I'm too scared of what you think
You make me nervous so I really can't eat
Let's go, don't wait, this night's almost over
Honest, let's make this night last forever
Forever and ever, let's make this last forever
Forever and ever, let's make this last forever
When you smile, I melt inside
I'm not worthy for a minute of your time
I really wish it was only me and you
I'm jealous of everybody in the room
Please don't look at me with those eyes
Please don't hint that you're capable of lies
I dread the thought of our very first kiss
A target that I'm probably gonna miss
Let's go, don't wait, this night's almost over
Honest, let's make this night last forever
Forever and ever, let's make this last forever
Forever and ever, let's make this last forever
Let's go, don't wait, this night's almost over
Honest, let's make, this night last forever
Forever and ever, let's make this last forever
Forever and ever, let's make this last forever
Forever and ever, let's make this last forever"
"FOREVER AND EVER, LETS MAKE THIS LAST FOREVER!" We sang together in unison, screaming extra loud the last line.
" I love this song," Jennifer cried. " It's just times like this that just make me forget all the pressures of the wedding, work and just...well life in general. It just feels like the old days when there was no pressures or anything, just the worry of whether we'll be able to complete our homework on time while we're on the bus for school. I wish that life could just be like this all the time."
"Yeah I know what you mean," I said, starting blacking out the window at the passing traffic.
The truth was, I knew what she meant, every word to be exact. I truly missed those days. The days when we were both careless teenagers who loved nothing more than to sit on out sofas and watch TV, chatting out our lives. When we were back in high school, around the age of 14, Jennifer started having boyfriend's. At first I though it was a good thing;I hoped that it would help me get rid of my stupid childhood crush I had on her, but it didn't. Yeah I tried having girlfriend, even serious ones, but nothing seemed to help me get over my feelings for her. So now I'm 23 years old, still the man I used to be, still loving the same girl, still stuck in the "friend-zone".
To some people it may seem like I'm moaning, but if you've ever been in my situation you'll know what I mean.
"Dylan? Are you awake? Dylan?"
"Huh, yeah, sorry I was just day dreaming."
"It's fine, you were just really quiet for a bit so I didn't want to disturb you incase you were asleep. I know how you love your beauty sleep." She said, turning away from the road giving me a playful wink.
"Shh, I can't help it if like to sleep. Why did you want me anyway?"
"I was just going to tell you that we're nearly back now. Oh and what'ya fancy for tea? We can probably order in a takeaway if you want? Oooh we could get a kebab."
"Yeah a kebabs fine, just make sure you get me extra garlic mayo."
"I will do, I'll ring up Mario's when we get back home and order them."
"Okay."
_________
"Home at last," she wined, "today's been such a long day."
She plopped herself down on her couch and out her head on my shoulder. "Urgh I swear this wedding's going to be the death of me but it'll all be worth it in the end. Don't you think?"
"Yeah I guess." I stared into space.
"What's the matter? You don't seem your normal self."
"I'm fine." I looked at her, giving her a reassuring smile. "Do you want to watch TV or something?" I said, trying to change the subject.
"Erm yeah, what do you fancy watching?"
"Its don't really mind, it's up to you." She turned the TV on and started flicking through the channels.
"Ooh Bridget Jones' Diary is on. Do you fancy watching that again?" She asked, still looking at the TV.
"Nah its okay. I think I'm going to hit the hay now, tomorrow is going to be another long day." I stood up and headed for the door.
"You sure? I know you love a good chick flick?" She said, giving me a playful wink.
" I think I'll pass on that offer, night!" I yelled, heading towards the door. "See you tomorrow."
