~3rd Person Point of View~
"Melantha?" Yoona scrunched up her nose slightly, having not heard of the name before at all.
"Yeah," Jungkook sighed, lifting his head up so he could see Yoona's face properly, but still keeping his hold on her body.
"Mel was...she was like an older sister, I'd always admired the way she could fight so gracefully and effortlessly. I don't even know why she came to train with us to be honest - she was a strong independent learner, she could have easily taught herself," He ran his fingers through his hair, brushing it away from his eyes as Yoona listened intently.
"And then?" She tried not to sound eager, but she just wanted to know what happened, and make some sense of everything, to understand the boy in front of her.
"And then...she changed. Or maybe she was always like that and the niceness was all an act," He chuckled humourlessly, ending with his brow furrowed.
"She slowly became more and more obsessed with darker things, Yoona," Jungkook's eyes narrowed as he retold the tale.
"I'd come down early in the morning and find her in the gym, always piercing the dummies with knifes and bludgeoning them with clubs. Sure, we all train to be able to attack and defend, but not to outright murder, which is what it looked it. I told myself it was just because it was a dummy, it doesn't matter - that Mel was just practising...""...and one day I woke up at around half two in the morning, needing a drink. Just as I was getting a glass of water, I heard a rattle in the door and in walked Mel, who froze upon seeing me. I asked, pleaded with her to tell me where she'd been, what she was doing, what was going on - she simply shrugged it off, saying she needed 'fresh air' or 'had a lot of things on her mind'. I was worried, we all were - she seemed to be becoming distant with us, and we thought maybe she was seeing a boy and didn't want us to know. How would we have known it was much greater than that..." He smiled wryly, a humourless smirk.
"It was a Tuesday morning, early morning, around 3:00am. I awoke to faint knocking and Mel's head popped around the door. I motioned for her to come in and she did, shutting the door behind her and claiming she couldn't sleep so came to see me. Of course, I was half asleep still - the perfect time for her to plunge the needle in my arm when my reactions weren't the strongest, effectively sedating me, and after that I simply remember waking up in a dark unfamiliar room, the torture chamber, if you like," Jungkook shrugged, his clenched fists the only sign that he was affected by what he just relayed, his face not displaying any emotion.
Yoona stayed silent, knowing there was more, and rather than offer useless words of sympathy, remained quiet to hear him out.
"She gave me normal food and water and stuff, and there was a bed...." He trailed off, wincing.
"But everyday there were new experiments. I was a mere test subject," He spat, the hurt still flaring in his eyes and Yoona's grip tightened on his shoulders, comforting him.
"In the beginning nothing happened. She'd get frustrated, and then leave and come back the next day with something. Until one day she finally got a reaction, and it all went downhill from there," Jungkook sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"What do you mean?" Yoona whispered, still partly confused.
"See these?" His finger traced some of the smaller scars. "These were the initial trials, where one of substances she injected made my emotions turn to anger, out of my control. That was the day she knew that she's made progress; that she had created something that could override self-control and stimulate negative human emotions. A drug, basically. Then she took this away and continued to develop it, eliciting new results...and you can see the effects for yourself," He spread his arms in a mock display, the hardness worn away from his features, and Yoona could see the real Jungkook that was previously hidden away from the lenses of the camera and the eyes of the curious.
"I turned into this...this thing, becoming a demon from whatever chemicals she injected in me. I knew I had to leave before she made me any worse."She didn't know what to say. She really didn't; what do you say when someone tells you a story like that?
"So I escaped."
"Just like that?" Yoona cocked her head.
"Just like that," Jungkook confirmed with a chuckle. "Well okay, I had to knock down a few guards but it was a lucky day, the guard had forgotten to lock the door properly. And then I just sneaked out, before crashing into one of the guards who was walking down the corridor. I knew I had to act quick before he raised an alarm, so I grabbed the blade he'd dropped and ran for it...turns it was the sword, he was on the way to deliver to her before my interception," He smirked, before his face fell again.
Yoona didn't say anything; she didn't feel the need to. She simply pressed closer and drew the boy into her embrace, his face buried in her neck and as her hands gently rubbed circles on his back.
"I know it hasn't seemed like it the past week but...I really love you."
Yoona smiled, tightening her hold. "I love you too."
"I'm not safe though Yoona...I just don't want to hurt you unintentionally if I have one of my 'episodes'," Jungkook sighed, nuzzling her neck with his nose. "I'm a monster."
"Jungkook." Yoona cupped his face, squashing his cheeks with a giggle. "Then you're my monster and I wouldn't change you for the world."
"Even when I change into an uncontrollable demon?" He cocked his head and sniggered.
"...hm okay well that part could be left out but no worries," She laughed, as Jungkook quickly pecked her lips again, smiling at her as he drew back.
"This time I won't let you go."
