You are the rope binding me to life
eyes a playground of adventure
Daring us to go higher
We Climb the slide backwards
We fly off the swings
We break all the sidewalk chalk
Into itty bitty bits
We grow together in convolution
Singing naive songs
Baiting life to come get usI didn't know it yet but
We were pieces of two different puzzles
Different species stitched into the same skinAnd As time stretched thinner
So did we
calls rang out into empty space
patterns of yellow flecks forgotten in your eyes
Keepsakes thrown out
History seemingly unraveling
You just kept hitting snooze on my clock
Curiosity crippled with underlying pain
As I tried to analyze
What happened?
time lost in hesitant stress
As I attempt communication
I advance you, mind crawling with worry
Your stare sticks to mine
Frozen in time for a second-long millennium
A frown corrupting your features
As you swiftly swivel around, darting in the opposite direction.
A greased bullet through a balloon
When did I become not good enough to you?
Now I realize you were never the rope binding me to life,
instead
You were the very rope used to hang me
