Cassie is Missing
Chapter 2
"Our daughter is missing and that's not even your concern?!" Dad screams.
"I'm sorry sir, there's nothing that I can do to help you." A man says.
The door unlocks and someone enters. I turn my head to see my mom who is now crying. I watch her as she tries to hold her tears. I look at her with a confused look.
"Mom, what's wrong?" I ask worriedly.
"Cassie …. She's missing." She says with tears in her eyes.
After a few seconds she starts to sob. I'm still in shock, I try to remember the last time I was awake and it feels like months ago.
"How long have I been unconscious?" I ask without looking at mom's face.
"2 days" she answers.
I stare at the white room of the hospital. I remember Cassie's smiling face and the tears ultimately start to stream down my face. I can't lose Cassie too. I have to find her before it's too late. The thought of being all alone again makes me feel miserable. Suddenly I remember the golden watch. It must've been the reason for Cassie's disappearance. I try to look for the watch but I can't find it.
"Mom where's my watch?" I ask her with my eyes wide open.
"I don't know Katherine! Your sister is missing and your biggest concern is your watch!" she yells at my face.
"No mom…."
I think of telling her about the watch but I change my mind because I know that she wouldn't understand. I stare at the white ceiling for several hours. The sun starts to set; I turn my body to watch the sun setting. Then I realize that mom is not in the room anymore. After a few more hours, my dad enters the room.
"I have an announcement for you." He says with a small grin on his face.
My hopes boost up that they found Cassie. I rise up so that I am in a sitting position.
"They will let you out of the hospital after half an hour" he says.
I sigh and my smile starts to fade away. I shrink back into the bed and I start to weep. Dad leaves the room and returns after a few minutes.
"Katherine, it's time to leave the hospital" Dad says softly.
I get up and I feel awfully dizzy. I put on my boots then I start to follow my dad. We pass many nurses, doctors, and patients. When we reach the car, mom is already waiting for us. On our way to home the car feels so lifeless without Cassie. I look outside the window and I start to think of all the things that I have been through with Cassie, all the fun and happy moments. When we reach home I go up to my room without saying or doing anything. I look at myself on the mirror and I look so weak and frail. I fall on bed then close my eyes.
"Katherine! Katherine!" I hear Cassie call out.
I quickly open my eyes but unfortunately she's not there. It was just my imagination. I wake up and I start to head towards the bathroom. I get ready for school. I grab my breakfast and say goodbye to mom.
"Where do you think you're going?" Dad demands.
"Umm… school?" I ask puzzled by the question.
"You can't drive; you just came out of the hospital!" He says.
"Don't worry I will be fine."
"Are you sure that you don't want me to drive you to school?"
"Yes I'm 100% sure"
I give him a quick smile and hurry out of the house. I reach school safely and while I'm heading to my locker I see the girl that owns the watch, and she has the golden watch! I quickly run to face her, and I grab her hand in case she tries to run away again.
"Hey! Give me that watch back" I angrily tell her.
"No, this watch must be broken" she says.
"Why?!" I ask.
"This watch can let you access the ghost world. Kevin, the villain kidnapped a couple of kids and locked them in the ghost world. Once I break this watch none of them will be able to go out." She replies.
"No please you can't do this. My sister might be inside there!" I tell her.
"I'm sorry, I can't help you." She says in sympathy.
I look at her and I know that I can't convince her to give me the watch. So I decide to ask her to tell me more about the golden watch and how it works.
"Do you mind telling me how this watch works?" I ask.
She looks at me in the eye, she hesitates.
"Well… I guess that's the least I can do for you."
"Thanks a lot."
"Anytime. So this watch was made in 1995 by a man who wanted desperately to see his mother after she died. He invented this watch without knowing the consequences of it. The watch carried on from generation to generation. Until it reached my older sister. She and a friend of hers wanted to try the watch so they read the instructions. For the watch to work you must sleep with it on your hand at a sharp hour. She let her friend sleep with it at 6:00 sharp. When she opened her eyes she saw herself in the same place and she thought that nothing changed. She started to see all the ghosts that died at 6:00. She didn’t know that she must go to sleep before it's too late. So she just explored the places and after about 1 week the watch on her hand was gone and that's when she knew that she's trapped there forever."
I immediately think that it's Jane. I don't want this to happen to Cassie.
"Do you have an idea of the girl's name?" I ask to make sure.
"No I'm sorry, but I can ask my sister." She says.
"Please ask her." I tell her.
The bell rings, she nods and starts walking away.
"Wait! What' your name?" I quickly ask.
"Lisa" she says.
I want to ask Lisa so many questions but I know that my time is up. I have to steal away the watch from Lisa. I have to save Cassie before it's too late, I decide to follow Lisa. She walks to the bathroom I enter quietly behind her. She puts her purse near the sink and she walks into one of the stalls. The watch must be in the purse. I open the bag and I look for the golden watch. I find a golden watch I grab it quickly and I close the purse. I turn around to walk out, But Lisa is already out and she's looking at me.
"What are you doing? I trusted you Katherine!" she says.
I start to run towards the door but she grabs the back of my shirt.
"Give me that watch back now!" she says as she tries to pull it from me, and I try to pull it back. I suddenly decide to let go, and she decides the same too. It all happened so fast, I let go of the watch and she does the same. I look at the watch as it falls face down and cracks. I freeze at what happened. I just broke the watch and now Cassie is gone. The tears run down my face, and I feel that my life is over.
