Taylor

The second i stepped through the gates i already felt tired and i knew that struggling through this year was going to be great. Yeah, fuck me. I made my way straight to the tool shed where Trish was waiting, she was wearing a floral skirt and white frilled t-shirt. Just by the way she dressed i knew something had changed. When i walked up to her she put her phone in her bag and put her hands on either sides of my shoulders. I smiled and tried to look happy for her sake, she ignored the number done on my face and went to talking about her self as usual. Trish sighed and then looked serious.

"Okay Tay Tay"

Fuck i hated that nickname, i pictured slapping her and then calmed and regained composure.

"This is going to be a bit of a shock for you"

Trish paused and then fanned her face which made me smirk

"Tay Tay, I am straight"

I stared at her trying not to laugh, she said it like it was news to me. I am not mean person and i am not usually one to question and mock others sexuality but Trisha was one who would pretend to get attention. It pissed me off but i felt sorry for her considering all she wanted was to fit in. Trish continued sounding surprised herself

"I found out on the holidays but i think deep down i always knew"

I smiled trying to look legitimately happy for her and nodded

"I am glad you are happy"

Trish smiled and started going on about how she found this guy on the holidays and how hot she thought he looked, she even started asking if i thought he was hot from looking at pics she had taken with him. Hello world i am fucking gay i don't care if he is hot. But for the sake of our 'friendship' i tried to play along. What she didn't realize is that when she was day dreaming and boasting about his abs i was thinking about the mysterious girl that i had met at the bus stop. Ruby. I loved the way her name rolled off my tongue, Rrrrrruby. Oh god what have i become.

Trish and i walked to class together a the while she didn't stop talking once and i was starting to get annoyed which is why i was so glad i had the excuse to go to my locker. As i walked down the empty halls i saw someone standing next to my locker looking a little confused and irritated. Getting closer i remembered the hoodie and realized it to be Ruby fiddling with her lock. I was only about 3 meters away from her when she turned and grinned.

"Taylor right? Taylor Reece"

I smiled and nodded

"Ruby, Ruby Rose??"

She chuckled and then went back to murdering her lock, i put my stuff in my locker and grabbed my books, Ruby startled me by bashing her lock against her locker.

"Stupid piece of shitty metal, god dammit"

I laughed and took the lock off her, she grinned almost embarrassed as i showed her how to open the lock. She thanked me and explained herself

"I was never a very good kid at school so when i got a combo lock i always replaced it with a key lock which pissed the teachers off. I can't do it at this school because they made it quite clear that if i break a rule i am fucked basically"

I nodded and went to walk to class but she called me back

"Hey!! Taylor, do you think you could show me the way to room 9 for English i was never really good with maps"

"Sure i am in English as well, tag along"

I waited for her to organize her stuff and then we walked to class together. All the while i pretended i hadn't been thinking about her every second since we parted at the school gates. God damn i am pathetic. We bantered and chatted about the teachers we would be having and i showed her what rooms held what classes as we walked by them. She listened intently the whole time and when we got to class she stiffened a little

"What's wrong" I asked genuinely concerned

Ruby bowed her head in shame and muttered quietly

"I have never been good with starting at new schools, people say i don't make an awesome first impression"

I shake my head and flash a smile

"I think you make a fine impression"

She looked relieved and thanked me, I opened the door for her and together we walked into the first class of the year.
