Piper was thrilled. She and Jason hardly ever got to go out on dates anymore. Jason had been put in charge of organizing camp activities for Camp Jupiter and Camp Half-Blood.
So when Jason had overheard Piper talking with Annabeth, saying she kind of wished they'd been able to go back to school their senior year for prom, he'd set out to make that the newest activity.
And she hoped she was right about what she thought this date was about.
She walked up Half-Blood Hill as the sun began to set. At the top was a blanket and a basket. The Athena Parthanos cast a feint glow on the blanket. But she could see no Jason. Piper walked to the blanket and sat down.
She looked out at the horizon. The sunset was beautiful. Every color shone vividly. As she watched, she felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her waist. She smiled.
"Hey," a familiar voice said. Piper felt a pair of lips peck her softly on the cheek.
"Hi," she replied. "I was wondering where you were."
"Oh, just making a few extra preparations." He said.
Piper turned to face Jason. He looked stunning. His blonde hair was spiked up, the way she liked it. He wore a black tuxedo, with a royal blue tie. Funny, it matched her dress. How he'd known what she was wearing, Piper had no idea.
"You look amazing," Jason said. Piper shrugged. She'd worn a dress, but that was it. She didn't have any makeup on and her hair was down like it always was.
"Not as amazing as you," she commented.
"You ready?" Jason smiled. Piper nodded and wrapped her arms around his neck. His arms stayed around her waist, and they rose into the sky.
Camp Half-Blood looked peaceful below. Jason sored over the camp and near the lake, were he began to decend.
"Um, Jason?" Piper said. "What are you-"
Jason stopped her with a kiss. When he pulled back, he said, "Trust me, Beauty Queen."
The lake below them grew closer and closer until Piper was sure Jason was going to submurge them in the water.
"Jason!" She yelled. But he kept going. As the approached the surface, Piper squeezed her eyes shut and clung to Jason for her life. But when she opened her eyes, she wasn't wet or cold. In fact, she hadn't even noticed they'd went underwater.
"Jason, how are you-" she started, but Jason kissed her again.
"I said to trust me, didn't I? Don't worry, I asked Percy for a favor." Piper smiled at him and touched her forehead to his, closing her eyes.
The two of them sank deeper and deeper until Piper could barely see outside their air bubble.
"Almost there," Jason announced. Piper strained her eyes and saw a small hut.
"Did you really-" she tried. But Jason's laugh cut her off.
"You really don't trust me much, huh? But yes. I asked Percy for a favor, like I said." They flew into the hut, and Piper was shocked to see that it was just like a normal house. She could breath, and there wasn't any water, other than the waterfall in the middle of the room.
"Jason, was this really worth it?" Piper asked in awe.
"It's a special night." He replied.
"What's the big occasion?" She asked.
"You'll find out," he said. Piper decided to let him take his time. He had obviously planned this all out. She'd keep her patience, for him.
Jason sat on the couch and pulled her onto the seat beside him.
"Piper, I love you," he said.
"I love you too, Jason." She smiled.
"No, no. Let me finish." He said. Piper nodded. "When I woke up on that bus a few years ago, I didn't know myself, much less you. And I know you were given fake memories. I can't imagine what it must have felt like, not knowing which feelings were real and which ones weren't." He paused and Piper looked at him expectantly.
"But I know my feelings now. Even if those memories weren't real, these are. I love you more than I can ever express through words or actions, Piper. You're my everything. I live because of you. If I were to...if you were to..." He choaked up.
"Hey," Piper put a hand around his neck, and the other on his chest. "I'm not going anywhere. You're more than my everything. You know me more than I know myself. You're not just my other half. You're my all."
Jason smiled and kissed Piper. She lost track of time, but that didn't matter. Nothing else mattered right now. She wasn't sure if the kiss lasted a minute or an hour, but Jason finally pulled back.
"Piper, what I'm trying to say is...well, I want to be with you forever. I never want to be apart."
This is a pretty intense promposal, Piper thought.
Jason got up and knelt beside Piper. He pulled out a little box.
"And if you feel the same, I'd like to start a new chapter with you."
Piper covered her mouth. "Jason are you...are you proposing to me?" She said, disbelief clear in her voice.
Jason smiled. "I guess I am, Beauty Queen." He put the ring on her finger.
Piper fell onto Jason's chest. Tears streamed down her face. "Jason!" She cried.
Jason wrapped his arms around his fiance. They stayed there for several minutes. When they pulled apart, Jason kissed her.
And Piper kissed him back, saying the same word over and over in her head.
Fiance. Fiance. Fiance.
