I woke up this morning feeling pretty good about last night, I managed to avoid the family that came last night (besides the girl who saw me shirtless through the window). I mean it's not like I feel bad about myself, I'm not fat, but I'm also not skinny or fit. It was just embarrassing though for her to hear and see me. But now I'm in my moms car on our way to drop me off at school, "they asked about you" my mom says glancing at me from driving. "What'd they ask?" I asked, "they asked where you were and why you didn't come out" she replies. "They didn't hear what I said before they came in?" I ask glancing at her from under my gray hoodie, I'm wearing my usual attire jeans, plain shirt, and a gray hoodie (along with my backpack of course). "No, why would they?" She asked, giving me a worried glance, "the girl heard me" I say looking out the window at the passing houses, "their daughter?" she says slowing the car to a stop, we're at my school (Trilen High school). I open the door and get out of the car, "wait!" She says "did she see you .." I shut the door before she can say shirtless to the whole student body that's waiting for classes to start. Usually everybody waits till the bell rings to go into the school, everyone stays out in a courtyard (we have an outside school so). I wave at my mom until she drives off, then I turn on my heels and start walking to the side of the school where I usually take a hallway to my first period. I go to my first period, which is on the outer side of a building there are black benches spread evenly across the outer windows of every building, so that students won't have to stand as they wait, my class is at the end of the wall at the very corner. I sit here everyday usually alone, but recently this girl from my 6th period has been coming to sit by me. I don't even know her that well, and I don't ever talk to her, but she talks to me. "Hey Brendon" she says as she sits, she is wearing a red jacket and black pants, and puts her backpack by her feet. I say nothing, "I don't want to be here today, I'm so tired" she says as she puts her face in her hands. I don't want you to be here either I think to myself, "so what do you think we're gonna do in 6th period?" She asks me turning to me. I'm done, I stand up and walk around the corner, I keep walking until I reach another corner and fall to the ground on my backpack. I lookup and see a face over me, dark brown eyes, straight black hair, tanned skin. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to walk into you" she extends a hand and I pause, I just stare at her, then I take it, she helps me up, "for a second I thought you weren't gonna take my hand, since you don't like people and all" she says as she dusts off my shirt. I open my eyes in surprise, she's the girl from last night! The one who saw me shirtless, and heard me say I don't like anybody! (Just to let you know, I told you my life was ruined) I stare at her wide eyed, "cat got your tongue?" She asks me, she smiles at me and just stares, she gives me this curious look. "My names Rachel" she says and puts out her hand for me to shake it, I look down at it, then back up at her, then down at it, I turn and start walking. "Wait, your not gonna say anything?" She says as she speeds her walking to match mine, she walks next to me and turns and smiles at me, she's short, like really short. "Your not gonna say anything after I saw you throw yourself off your shake and land on the floor shirtless?!" She asks me. Dang it she remember, then again why wouldn't she? How could you forget some shirtless idiot fall then close the curtains in your face "How shor.. tall are you?" I say to her quickly glancing at her, she wears a turquoise shirt with the letters NHS, she's smart I think, she wears blue jeans, and has a black backpack "I'm not short" she says as she looks up at me, she smiles, her teeth are incredibly white, "I'm fun sized" she's probably one of those smart, pretty girls who has their whole life planned out I just look at her, "No, really, how tall are you?" I say, "I'm 5 foot" she says "See, talking to people isn't so hard, I'm sure we'll be great friends" she says. "Not to mention that our families are friends" she says and looks ahead, we reach the other corner and turn, the girl is gone, probably gave up on me good, I won't have to listen to her anymore. I sit back in my seat by the bench, Rachel sits next to me, I roll my eyes another one I think, she stares at me, I stare at her then at the ground, we sit like that till the bell rings. She gets up "I'll be seeing you soon Brendon" and with that she walks away, as I walk into my class I start thinking, she was different, she didn't try to get me into a conversation, she didn't give up and leave, she stayed till the bell rang, why?
