Chapter 2:

“Rise and shine, sweat pea!” A cheery voice chirped from somewhere in the room.

All of a sudden there was a sudden burst of light in the room and I rolled over with a groan, shoving my face into my pillow. That simple action caused a piercing pain to radiate though my head and I let out another groan.

“How are you sweetie?” My mom asked, concerned.

I felt the bed dip with her weight as she sat down, placing a hand on my shoulder worriedly. I sat up and offered her a reassuring smile, not letting her see the pain that was making me wince inside.

“I'm fine mom, just hungry,” I lied. I was far from hungry.

“Thats good,” She replied. “We were so worried last night, with you disappearing and having to call the cops and all...”

“Disappearing?” I searched my mind, trying to remember what happened last night but all I was rewarded with was that damn stabbing pain.

My mom looked at me, very concerned and worried now.

“You must have hit your head harder than we thought,” My mom said with a frown, feeling my head. “I'll have to call the doctor and get him to come check out your head, make sure you don't have anything wrong. I'm just glad that you are safe and okay.”

“Mom, it's okay--” I began but she wasn't listening as she stood up and left the room.

I groaned again and fell back down against the pillows, regretting it instantly.

A second later, there was a buzzing noise. I turned and picked up my phone from the night stand beside my bed.

'Heeeey! How are you? Care to explain what happened last night? We were soo worried sick! Be there in 5'

I rolled my eyes, same old Lexi, panicking over nothing.

A second later, there was a knock on my bedroom door. Before waiting for a response, Lexi barged in, followed by an amused, but slightly annoyed Andrea.

Andrea sat in the chair beside my bed as we waited for Lexi to calm down and stop her pacing.

“She's been like this all morning,” Andrea informed me. “You really scared her last night.”

“Scared is an understatement,” Lexi said, walking towards us, her brown eyes full of concern for me. “More like terrified! What if something had of happened to you?”

“Lex, it's okay,” I said soothingly, trying to get her to calm down. “Look at me, I'm right here, perfectly fine and safe.”

“Yeah but what if you weren't? Huh?” She shot back, pacing around again. “What if something really happened to you? What if some creepy old pedophile man was lurking in those woods? Or what if some dangerous animal was on the loose? You could have been killed or worse! What if--”

“LEXI!” I shouted to stop her ranting. She was breathing hard and her eyes looked wild, probably thinking of more impossible ways I could have been hurt. “Do you forget where we live? Nothing bad ever happens around here.”

Lexi, finally defeated, sagged onto the bed beside me.

“I know, but you scared us all when you went missing,” She grumbled into the pillow.

“Maybe you shouldn't watch soo much criminal minds,” I joked, nudging her with my elbow.

She laughed, all her earlier anger and fear gone. “Ya think?”
