"Lacey, I'm just so excited, aren't you excited? I can't wait until we get to redecorate!" Since we got in the car, my mother has been non-stop blabbering about how excited she was about moving to this new town. I nodded, and went back to staring out the window of the cramped moving van, as my mother took my hand.
"Everything will be okay, Lacey. It's a fresh start, and we're going to make the most of it." I gave my mother a small smile. Drowning in my own thoughts, I close my eyes, and put my head against the window. I concentrate on my mother's soft humming, as I fall asleep against the hard glass. Two hours later, I'm awoken by a boy with a strong British accent. I open my eyes, and sit up from my uncomfortable position on the fake leather chairs, with my skin sticking to the seat, from the California heat. I look to my side, and suddenly I'm face to face with a familiar, tall, curly-brown haired boy, with eyes greener than the fresh cut grass in front of the large estate down the street.
"Lacey? Are you okay, love?" Questioned the tall boy, with a thick accent.
"Wait...Harry...?" My face lit up, I haven't seen this boy in years, since he moved away with his adoptive parents."I've missed you so much!" I jumped out of the truck and engulfed him in a huge hug, he hugged back tighter than I ever thought he would.
"I've missed you too Lace, I can't believe you're moving in right next door to me" He said with a huge, contagious smile.
"You live next door? That's so cool, we can hang out all the time, just like we used to back in school"
"I'd love that, Lacey" he replied.
"Well, i hate to cut this short, but I should probably get back to work, but I'll see you later, love" he said, with a wink, and another one of his signature dimpled smiles. I watch him walk away, admiring his muscular back underneath his bright white t-shirt. I used to have an enormous crush on him, I can't even remember half of all the things I wanted to do with him..
I'm snapped out of my thoughts when I feel my mother put her arm around my waist.
"Surprise!" My mom squealed beside me, as we stood on the side walk, watching Harry carefully pick up, and place boxes inside the house."How did you know he lived here?"
"I didn't. When I got the house, I had no idea Harry lived next door, until I came to see the house, and saw him outside, gardening with his mother. We caught up a bit, and that's when I found out that his dad owned a moving company, so I hired them right away, hoping I would surprise you." My mother said, with a huge smile, awaiting my response. She knew this move was hard for me, so she tried everything in her power to try and make me happy.
"That was the best surprise ever, mom. Thank you so much" I smiled, and hugged my mom, almost as hard as I hugged Harry.
"Yeah, I know, I'm the best" My mother replied, with a little smirk, her blonde hair flying everywhere because of the wind.
"Let's go help bring some boxes up to our rooms, and then maybe I can order a pizza or two?" My mother suggested.
"Sure, mom." I said as we walked into the house, and started bringing some boxes up the large staircase, into two of the four bedrooms.
My room is at the front of the house. It's a decent size, with at least 4 windows, and a high ceiling. The thing that I love the most though, is the closet...you could probably fit a bed in there. After bringing up all of our boxes, my mother went to her room and started to get things in order, and left me alone in my room, to figure things out. I cut open a box, and just my luck...it was filled with a bunch of things from the last years in my old town. My student awards, yearbooks, and everything. I dug through the box a bit until I found it. My old notebook. All my friends wrote in this notebook, It was kind of a memory book. Everyone I knew wrote down their favourite memory, or memories they've shared with me, so I can look back on the great times I've had, and smile when I'm feeling alone, or just need to be cheered up. I sat on the hard floor, considering my bed wasn't up the stairs yet, and I clenched the notebook in my arms, remembering all the unforgettable things that happened the past years. My thoughts wandered back to my best friend, Lexi. We promised to keep in touch, but we haven't talked since the last day of school. It's been almost three weeks, and we haven't even exchanged one word.
I didn't notice I was crying, until I felt a large hand on my cheek, and someone wiping away my tears. I opened my eyes, and there he was again. Harry was kneeling down in front of me, looking at me with sadness, and curiosity in his emerald eyes. I put my head down, I couldn't let him see me cry. He put his slightly calloused fingers under my chin, and softly lifted up my head, so I was looking him right in the eyes.
