Michael didn't answer any of Rick's questions at first, only looking out the glass sliding doors to see it was still night time. "Can we do this later?" Michael asked, Rick just furrowing his brow and scowling.
"You just screamed in your sleep, I had to come and save you--and you want me to brush this off?!" Rick sounded furious at him--well, not at him, but at what happened to him. "Have you completely lost yo--oorugh--ur fu-fucking mind!" He was so mad he could barely speak, him clearly making Michael nervous. Bumble started to growl at Rick, him growling right back. "Fuck off Bumble!" He shouted at the damned creature.
Michael stood up, managing to drag Rick outside through the glass doors into the back yard, Bumble staying inside as he locked the doors from the outside. "Listen, I just--" He couldn't find the words to say. How did he go about telling one of his best friends something like that. No, he couldn't, Rick would probably demand he leave. A saddening look came over Michael while Rick was ranting, him being lost in his mind.
"Are you even listening to me?" Rick bitterly asked snapping his fingers in front of Michael's face, the man snapping out of it, his sad expression going with it. Rick noticed this and huffed. "Listen, I don't mean to scare you--but I want to be able to prevent this from happening again." Rick explained to him. They stood there in silence for a minute, Rick clearly looking stressed out, hands on his hips as he tapped his foot before walking around slightly like a mad parent after their child does something dangerous.
"I'm so sorry Rick..." Michael mumbled, not wanting to make him stress out. Rick looked from the night sky to Michael before letting out another sigh.
"Don't apologize, you didn't do anything." Rick eventually said, walking over to Michael. "I won't force you to talk, but if you need to--I will listen." Rick sounded serious before talking again. "And if you tell my family about this caring moment, I'll give you one of the old college fashion swirlies." Michael laughed at that, Rick smiling a bit as he did so. "Now, let's get back inside."Michael nodded, going to the door and unlocking it, the two going back inside.
Michael went over to the couch, but Rick scowled for a minute. "What are you doing?" Rick half asked.
"Er..going to bed?" Michael replied confused.
"No, I'm not letting you out of sight for a while after that little episode." Michael rolled his eyes but knew an argument would lead nowhere. Following Rick up the stairs, they both slept in the same room--that being the guest room. Rick was forced to take the bed by Michael threatening to smash his head through the window, and Michael slept on the floor using a blanket.
When Michael woke up, he saw Rick sleeping on the floor near the closet, Michael smiling and rolling his eyes at the sight. Apparently neither of them slept on the bed. Michael stood up and saw that Rick was still asleep, it being morning now. Michael rubbed his eyes, a clock meeting his blurred sight. He pulled his glasses out of his pocket and read the time after putting them on. "12:03..." He smirked as he got an idea. Picking up his pillow, he snuck over to the sleeping Rick, raised his pillow, and struck him rapidly with it, a muffled noise of Rick being startled making Michael laugh.
Rick caught the pillow, quickly hitting Michael back with it before the two were at a stalemate--both with a pillow in hand. "Truce?" Michael asked, Rick giving him a playful glance before hitting him with the pillow one last time, agreeing to the truce. Michael smiled and laughed, Rick somewhat happy to see his friend smiling and not crying like before. But it also felt strange--as if he was 'over-protective' of his friend. Sure, Michael has and will have to face horrid things in life--but why cant he just take a few of them away? This question took up his mind, him being drawn back to attention when Michael opened the door, saying his name.
