"Are you kidding, it's not that high," Sebastian laughs at me, kicking off his shoes.
"Are you crazy?" I shriek, wide-eyed.
"No, but he is," Seb grins, jerking his thumb back at Silas Granger who's gearing up for a charging leap off the edge of this cliff.
"Let me show you how it's done, Freshman!" Silas shouts, rocking back on his heel before sprinting straight down the middle of Sebastian and I and tumbling in the air. All I can do now is watch in horror. Silas does two full mid-air somersaults and contorts his lithe body into a half twist before diving streamline into the clear water below.
I scream in second hand exhilaration more than fear though. Silas breaks the water again, grinning that wide toothed grin, flicking his dreads out of his face. "Beat that, Freshman!" he yells, throwing me a shaka before swimming around to the bank.
"That was insane!" I squeal to Sebastian, jumping up and down.
"You think that was cool, watch this," he says, tossing me a confident smirk. Sebastian yanks off his shirt and flings it at me before jogging back for a good run up. He sucks in a breath, tightening up the hard muscles on his core, before breaking out into a sprint. The next thing I know he's launching himself into the air, tucking into a cannonball and spins with accelerated momentum into the water. The splash is surreal. His back slaps the surface hard, sending up a tidal wave of water, before the rest of him crashes through.
"Oh my god!" Silas is hooting with laughter, halfway up the side of the bank. "Holy shit, dude! India, did you see that?"
"Is he alright?" I shout.
That instant Sebastian re-submerges, spouting a fountain of water. "What's the judge's verdict?" he calls, that same irrevocable grin stuck to his silly face.
"Ten out of ten for ridiculousness!" I screech.
"Yeah, but that form though!"
I fold my arms around my waist, moving away from the edge of the cliff. This is kind of dangerous, pretty reckless really. But here I am. That morning Sebastian had claimed that he and a good buddy named Si had found this cool place to cliff dive, two miles off campus. The place was completely secluded and I just had to see it apparently.
Then from the tree line steps a couple of girls carrying coolers. They're wearing standard bikini's and flip flops, sunglasses slid onto the tops of their heads. The blonde catches in her step, surprised to see me here supposedly alone.
"Oh, hi," she says. "Is this where the party's at?"
Before I can form a coherent reply to something I have no idea about, Silas scrambles up the rest of the bank and greets the girls.
"Soph, Lena, how's it going?"
"Great," the blonde -Lena- drawls. "Is Sebastian here already?"
"Yeah, he's down there," Silas nods his head in the direction of the drop. "So, uh, ladies I see you've met India."
"No, hi!" Sophie rushes forward to shake my hand, beaming genuinely at me.
"Nice to meet you," I smile back.
"Oh, Sebastian's new roomie, right?" Lena inquiries, sucking her top teeth in a manner that makes me suddenly uncomfortable.
