"Our moon long ago, long ago
Was eaten by the Bakunawa
Please have pity, return it, return it.
The crown of our King..."
~ Traditional Hiligaynon Children's Song
---------------------
Once there were seven moons in the sky, dancing among the brilliant stars and providing light for the world when the sun sleeps at night.
But an evil sea serpent deity named Bakunawa became jealous of their magnificence.
So much was her envy that she desired to eat their essence to absorb their power and beauty. The fiercest among the moon goddesses named Haliya was the protector of her sisters. The Sea Serpent was no match against the Seven Lunar Goddesses... Until Haliya fell in love with a mortal.
--------------------------------------
The seventh and last moon in our skies is swathed in her fury.
We're running out of time. My clan had been bound to serve the lunar goddess Haliya because of our ancestor Datu Dam-ao's betrayal of her love. In my veins run the blood that will put an end to the Sea Serpent goddess Bakunawa and with my own hands I will return the moons back in the sky.
I am Ibuna, the queen of the Amiling Kingdom who wields the lunar kampilan. I shall end the years of almost moonless nights and the hideous, destructive plague that haunted our land. And in the name of my husband who died a hero, my beloved... I shall not turn my back on the path that I chose for myself.
I shall return the moons, even if it means my death.
I shall be the end of the catastrophe of the moon, the outburst of the goddess.
And by all means, I shall seek the light that I once had.
