My feet pounded the wet ground as I ran down the sidewalk. Every step I took, water splashed up the sides of my legs. This Valentines Day so far sucked. Everyone else was inside, cuddling on the couch with their partner, watching Netflix. And I'm here, just trying to catch the fucking bus.
I saw the bus pull up to its stop not too far down the street.
"Son of a bitch!" I yelled out loud and got a few strange looks from people. I kept running to the bus, but it was too late, it pulled away.
"Uggggh!!" I screamed out of frustration. I was already extremely pissed, but now I wanted to punch a hole in the wall...or someone's face.
I gave up on the bus and began sloshing my way home. I was probably about 5 minutes into the walk, when a mysterious black car pulled up to the curb. The window came down and and I saw a face I never thought I'd see again.
"Hey there Sky. Need a ride?"
I squatted down to look inside the car, just to make sure I wasn't tripping. And sure enough, there was the unmistakable brown hair and green eyes of Christian Collins.
This Valentines Day couldn't get any worse.
"What do you want, Christian?"
"Well, it is raining. And you're walking. And I have a nice, warm car with a heated seat right here."
I don't understand why Christian wanted to pick me up so bad. He used to always torture me, since elementary school. After graduating last year, I thought that would be out last times seeing each other.
I was wrong.
"I'm fine Christian." I continued to walk.
"Oh come on Sky. I'm sorry for all those years of messing with you okay? Can we be adults now?"
I thought about all the things Christian used to do to me.
In Kindergarten, he lifted my skirt and flashed my little pink undies to everyone.
In third grade, he swapped my test with his so that I got a F and he got a A.
In fifth grade, he started a rumor that I kissed the grossest guy in the school. And everyone believed him.
And that's just elementary school.
Then, the rain pounded down harder. As if God decided I wasn't going through enough already.
"Jesus Christ, Sky, you're killing me. I'm sorry, okay? Your going to get sick. Just get in the car."
I stopped walking. Christian's car did look really warm and inviting. And it was damn near impossible to say no to that gorgeous face.
I groaned as I walked over to the passenger side of the car.
"What about your seat?" I asked.
"Leather."
Of course. I rolled my eyes and I slid into the car.
He pulled off the curb before I even closed the door.
I dug through my pockets looking for my keys and I couldn't find the .
"Shit!" I exclaimed and Christian turned to me.
"What?"
"I lost my keys in the rain."
"How do you plan on getting inside?"
"Well obviously, now I can't, Christian."
"Why can't you call me Chris? All my friends do."
"Well considering the last 13 years of my life, we're not friends."
He stayed silent.
Hah.
"I meant it when I said I was sorry. I was just being immature back then."
"It's only been a year."
He ignored my comment and kept talking.
"I only used to mess with you to get you to talk to me."
I had nothing to say to that. I sat in silence as we continued to drive.
"Well there were other ways to get me to talk to you."
I saw Christian smile to himself, but he didn't make a comment.
We kept driving until he pulled into the parking lot of an apartment complex.
"Where are we?" I asked, having never seen these apartments before.
"My apartment."
