The first thing Alma noticed was that there was a substitute teacher in her class. Mrs. Terriman, the one that said she was a trouble child when Alma had talked back in class, apparently has an accident according to the Principal.

"Yeah...accident." She breathed as she took her math book and placed it on her desk, only to find it was pushed off by the girl sitting next to her. Short, dull brown hair was pulled into a ponytail while a scar jutted on her jaw. Erika Vogel, one of Alma's bullies.

"Hey, Freak." She gave one of those glinting, dark smiles that made Alma boil hatred.

"Erika." She replied coldly, picking up her math book and setting it back down on her desk, only to have Erika slap it off. "STOP."

"Whatcha goin to do about it, freak?"

Alma looked into the cold merciless eyes wither her own dark ones. Was that a taunt?

She gave a shrug before replying:

"This."

Alma barely payed attention to the yelling and bickering her brother and the principal were having in his office. She knew what would happened. Suspension.

Though, really, it was worth seeing Erika's bloody nose as the results of her well placed fist.

The yelling became louder as the door opened. She watched as her older brother stormed out.

"Come on." He muttered gruffly as he passed his younger sister. Alma flinched at his roughness, biting her lip as she stood up and followed her brother's sulking figure. She knew she was in trouble.

As soon as he slammed his door in the car closed, Allen turned towards his younger sibling, red eyes filled with rage.

"What were you thinking?"

Every word was punched out, every syllable strained with the anger in his tone. Alma couldn't bear to look up at him, afraid of her brother's wrath.

"She taunted. I was tempted." She muttered, gripping her jeans.

Allen ran his hand through his already untidy hair, growling in frustration. He gave a sharp twist to the key in ignition. Alma heard him mutter something like: "idiot" and "got suspended". Her head lowered further at each statement. Not only that, she felt rage building in her. She was angry. At Erika, the principal..........and her brother. Why was he mad? He has done way worse than what Alma had just done.

As soon as they got home, Alma slammed the car door shut and raced up the the porch steps.

"Alma! Alma wait!"

Ignoring her brother's warnings, the fifth grader opened the front door.....

Only to find someone else there.....
