Chapter 1:

"And that concludes are lesson for today." Our teacher said as the bell rang.

I stood up from my seat and carried my diamond out the door. Stopping in front of the teacher.

"We have training next, correct?" I asked.

"Yes, now hurry." My professor said.

Walking away into the student filled hall, I maneuvered past kids, keeping a firm grip on my diamond.

Opening the outside doors I stepped onto the training ground. Taking my diamond I threw it in the air. It grew into a black naginota with a silver blade and tinker wheels attached to it while a diamond of light was floating off the end.

I lined up beside the other students, and out tall dark teacher stood in front of us, looking more serious than ever before. He looked at each and every one of his students.

"I need four of my most talented students for a challenging mission, and to decide who will go you all will be competing in an obstacle course."

This beast must be extremely dangerous if their asking four students to go on one mission. I was excited, I knew that I was one of the top four girls, but against the boys, it would be unknown if I would be top four.

"The course is not on school grounds however, it's out in the forest."

"What are we up against?" one student blurted out.

"A level six vampire."

Students whispered to each other, surprised to be up against a level six. There are eight levels, one being the lowest, eight being the most powerful. A level six would be very difficult, no wonder why they need four of the best students.

"Let's go, already then!" A girl yelled excitedly.

Mr. Okono held out one hand, telling her to stop.

"This obstacle course is tough, it is probably the hardest one any of you have been on." Mr. Okono paused, looking up into the bright blue sky, "In fact, it will probably take a life."

Die? Why would anyone create an obstacle course like that? They should just send us on the mission to get killed; the air grew heavier as the thought of death spread through the crowd of students. It was strange, we all should be accustomed to it seeing as we face it every day, but it's also the fact that we are up against a vampire, the beings of death. I've always found these specific creatures fascinating, because not only are they dead, but they can spread their death.

"Does anyone not want to join?" Mr. Okono asked breaking the deadly silence.

No one wanted to back down or they would seem weak to the others, but they all really wanted to, it was just a matter of pride. Though I was slightly excited to be able to meet a real vampire, it was a shame that the first one had to be slaughtered.

"So all twenty of you want to join?"

A shaking hand went flew the air; the small boy at the end was scared.

"I...don't want to." The small boy said ashamed.

More hands went up, many in fact. It looked as if the whole class wanted out. What a disappointment, but I would have much more of a chance of getting at least the fourth spot on the mission.

"Well, only eleven people want in?" He asked looking around, "Okay, let's go. The rest of you stay here and continue your training."

I lined up behind eleven of the other brave students. It looked like six girls and five boys came. That was actually a surprise, seeing as the boys always pull out a huge ego around the girls. Well, most do. Our instructor led us into the forest, leading the way off the regular path until we got to the obstacle course; containing dummies, guns, and much more.
