She is the quiet one. The one who always sits in the back of class. She's the unnoticed one. The one nobody notices. She's the type that likes to sit in her room and read on a Friday night. Instead of going to football games and parties. She's the o...
It was August 17th. The first day of school and not to mention, my golden birthday. This was one of the big ones. I woke up and stood at my closet trying to decide what to wear. So many clothes and nothing to wear, I thought to myself. I wanted to get a little more dressed up since it was my birthday I just didn't know what to wear though. Normally I'm not like this, only on special occassions. "Calli let's go your breakfast is getting cold." My mom called. "Callie if you don't get down here right now I'm eating your food!" Brittney threatened. "But I'm not dressed yet." I replied. "Get dressed after you eat then!" Brittany replied. I ran downstairs and found my birthday breakfast next to one of my birthday gifts. "Happy birthday!" Brittany said. "Make a wish!" My mom said. Then I blew out the candle on my birthday cake pancakes. I handed Brittany a fork and we both dove in. We scarfed down the pancakes and my mom caught me staring at the gift. I slowly started to pull it toward me and Brittany laughed. "Go ahead." My mom said and I yanked it toward me. I started tearing out the wrapping paper and throwing it on the floor. I pulled out a pretty blue and white dress. "I love it!" I said, I was wanting this dress from Aeropostale for a while.

"I thought you would need something cute for school today." My mom replied. "Thank you." "Well, what are you waiting for, go put it on." Brittany said. I ran upstairs and threw on the dress with a cardigan and a pair of booty shorts underneath. Then, I put on a little eyeliner and mascara with a little blush and put on my white converse. I grabbed my backpack and ran back downstairs. "Happy birthday." My dad said and hugged me. "Thank you." I replied. "You look gorgeous." They all complimented. "Awww, thanks." I replied. "Brit, we better get going or will be late." "Ohh, you're right." She said. "Bye." My parents said and I hugged them and grabbed my lunch. We ran outside and got in my car. I had a black Ford Fusion. It was my dads old car but it was exactly what I wanted. We got to school and went our separate ways to our lockers. I was coming up to my locker when I found some people around the locker next to mine. No one has ever had that locker ever since I've been here and I know they didn't give it to a freshman. It's because all the people around are my year and popular. I got to my locker and smiled. Brittany last night made me a locker poster, that's why she couldn't hangout yesterday. I set up my locker and grabbed the books I would need. "Hey, I'm Thomson. I just moved here from California. And you are?" The new guy said to me holding out his hand. I rolled my eyes, shut my locker, and walked away. He's a jock, I can't stand jocks and he's one of the populars. "Don't take it personally." Maddie, one of the popular girls at his locker, said. "She never talks." Her boyfriend Jake added. I walked to my first class because school was about to start. I walked into my English class and took a seat in the back of the room. Everyone started to file in as the bell rang. And then, ugh, Thomson walked in. And if that wasn't bad enough he sat right next to me. The whole back row was empty except where I was and now Thomson. There were other seats open but no he had to sit next to me. "Hey locker neighbor." He said to me. I rolled my eyes and shook my head then the teacher started going through role call. Finally, she got to me "Mickayla West?" "Here and I go by Calli." I said. "So, Calli it is, as in Callifornia?" He asked. "No, you can call me Mickayla." "Is that what you have your friends call you?" He asked smiling. "No its not. They call me by my nickname." "So does that mean I'm special?" "No it means exactly the opposite." "Ouch, that stung." He is so annoying. I turned around and listened to the assignment the teacher was explaining. We were doing an all about me project, I loved but hated this at the same time. I love it because its where you get creative and you get to see a person's true self. I hated it because it meant standing in the front and having everyone stare at me while I reveal my true self. This whole week we would be doing getting to know eachother activities. Today we were going around the room sharing our names and something we did over the summer. "Do we have any volunteers to go first?" The teacher asked and looked around the room to see if anyone rose their hand. "No, okay then, I'll just randomly choose." Please don't be me, please don't be me, I thought to myself. "Mickayla, why don't you go first." She said excitedly. Of course she just had to pick me. I stood up and looked down, "I'm Mickayla and uhm I spent my summer reading." Everyone started laughing and I fell back in my chair and put my head on the desk. Finally, it was the end of the day and I learned that Thomson is in everyone of my classes. I was at my locker getting my stuff and he was at his doing the same. "Happy birthday Calli!" He said to me. "Its Mickayla." I replied and picked up my backpack. Brittaney came and then we left. It was after dinner and we were all sitting outside on the patio around the table. My family plus Brittaney were all here. "Mickayla you are such a gorgeous girl I bet all the guys at school are falling for you." My grandma said. "Thanks and I doubt it." I replied. "Well is there any special someone at your school?" My aunt asked. "No not at all and there never will be because I don't see a point in dating at all!" "What about the new guy, Thomson, he's super cute and I think he may like you." Brittaney pointed out. "I would rather die then date Thomson. Even if we were the last two people on earth I still wouldn't. He is so annoying and won't leave me alone." I fought back. "Ohhh, you're right Brittaney. That's how you tell if a guy likes you." My mom said. "Or there just jerks and I doubt that's true." "No its true Cal. I tormented your mom all the time, I even dumped a milkshake over her head." My dad said. "Look Thomson and I will never date and I will never date anyone." "I said that I would never date your dad and now look at us." My mom said. "Can we just stop talking about this and open gifts." "Here open mine first." Brittaney said. I grabbed her gift wrapped in gold wrapping paper. I opened it and in there was a little ring box. I picked it up and opened it, it was a gold infinity ring. "And now we have ring power." She said and held up her hand and I smiled. Then, I got sharpies, a new phone case, an itunes gift card, a movie projector, a notebook, an easel phone stand, combat boots, a gift card to this French café, a beanie, a curling wand, some make up, and some clothes. Later on, after my grandparents and aunt and uncle left, my older cousin Kyle came. He's a freshman in college. "Hi." I said getting up to hug him. We were both only childs so growing up we were super close. "Hey, happy birthday." He said. Hugging me. "Thanks, so my gift?" "That's in my car." "Well, what are you waiting for?" "You." He replied and then we all followed him to his car. We were a few feet away when I saw what was in the passengers seat. I ran to his car opened the door and pulled out an eight foot tall teddy bear. "You're the best Kyle." "I know." He replied. We all walked back out to the back and all sat down. Even the bear had a seat. We had cake and then played with sparklers. Kyle gave Brit a ride home and I flopped in bed.
