Days turned into weeks, and those weeks turned into months. The work in Yoglabs kept up at a steady pace while Lalna was working on his cloning.
Xephos, on the other hand, had been busy trying to run the damn place. His days seemed to drawl on slowly as he made sure everything in the compound stayed intact. Today, he had taken a break by bringing in his friend Honeydew to one of the newest and most interesting projects by far.
"So what new atrocity have we got here today?" Honeydew asked as Xephos led him down the hallway.
"I think you'll like this one. Our top group of engineers have created full body mechanical suits that provide missiles, various guns, and so much-" Xephos began to open the door and suddenly stopped his words when he noticed what was going on inside the room. Two giant robot suits were spiraling out of control and spitting out sparks every which way.
Xephos gawked at the sight and began to frown at Honeydew's laughter behind him. He closed the door with a sigh and shrugged.
"Looks like it's got a few kinks to work out," He muttered.
Honeydew laughed it off and crossed his arms.
"Well, what do you have to show now?" Honeydew said with a smirk.
"Nothing, I'm afraid. Everything else is a work in progress," Xephos grumbled.
While Xephos was rubbing his temples in frustration, Honeydew peeked behind him and saw a quick flash of something intriguing.
"Well I'm going to check on that Lalna guy." He claimed as he began to walk ahead of Xephos. Xephos straightened up and turned to look at his friend.
"Why him? He hardly has any progress, I'm sure." He mumbled with a slight frown.
"Oh, come on, don't be a pissface. I want to see how much longer I have to wait till I can get a second me!" Honeydew called out as he continued to walk towards Hector's cloning lab.
After a moment of hesitation Xephos began to follow. In truth, he hadn't been in Hector's lab at all since he had began his work. He had no particular interests in seeing Lalnable's progress or even seeing the bumbling scientist himself.
When he reached the door, Xephos walked in unannounced. Unsurprisingly the room was in total disarray; files were stacked up messily on his desk, so many books were crammed into small shelves that they seemed to be spilling out, and wires stretched around the floor like a maze. Honeydew and Lalnable were standing behind the mountain of papers discussing the progress of the clones. With disgust, Xephos noticed a large wooden crate placed behind them stained Crimson and was leaking what looked like blood.
When he walked into sight, Lalnable perked up.
"And now that I've got-Oh! Xephos! Sorry, I wasn't expecting a visit," Lalnable stammered. "Do you want to see the current clone?"
"Well, firstly, I'd like to know what you have in that box." Xephos said, jabbing a thumb at the bloody crate.
"Oh! That's...cow fat." Lalnable idly remarked with a slight pause.
"And...why do you have cow fat in a box?"
"Right, right," Lalnable mumbled "I found that adding in an amount of animal fat made the clones grow faster and quicker. I used pig fat before but it ended up mutating too quick so I'm hoping to see if the cow fat will last long enough. That way I can synthesize it to recreate my own, more human-like, tissue to allow..." Lalnable rambled on while Xephos turned his attention to the back of the room.
A huge tarp was covering what looked like an incubation cylinder. Without asking, Xephos pulled away the tarp and scowled at what was inside.
A clone is an overstatement to describe what was in there, for it was more like a blob of flesh with an arm and hand sticking out. Xephos tapped the glass of the container and expected nothing to happen. Although he jumped back with a squeal when the blob waved at him.
Lalnable had stopped talking and both he and Honeydew stared at Xephos as he stood up straight.
"What was that noise?!" Honeydew burst out while cracking up.
"More like what the fuck was that thing?!" Xephos shouted, still shaken up over the ordeal.
"A failed clone, I told you the pig fat mutated fast," Lalnable said with a shrug.
"Is that thing alive? It waved at me!" Xephos stammered.
"No, the nerves are just acting up. It does that every now and then."
Xephos finally managed to calm down and regain his composure. He had had enough of this.
"I'll leave you to whatever you two are talking about, but I'm done for today." Xephos stated as he began to walk out of the lab. Honeydew hurried to try and stop him.
"And you're going where? We've only just come to say Hi to Lalna and your ditching already?" He protested.
"I've dealt with enough shit today. I'm going to the pub at the village nearby." Xephos grumbled.
"Sounds like a great idea! Me and Lalna will tag along as well." Honeydew exclaimed, walking ahead of Xephos out of the door. Xephos didn't even arguing with his friend and instead just turned to look at Lalnable. The scientist looked a little shocked at first, but now he look at Xephos as if silently asking if he could really join them.
"See you there." Was all Xephos said as he walked out the door.
