I woke up in an unfamiliar place. It smelt of a hospital, or similar to one. Waking up, I realized I wasn't in one. I looked down to see I was laying on a table, my feet and arms shackled to it.
"Hello." An unfamiliar voice sounded from behind me. The room was lit by a dim light, making the rest of the room pitch black. My eyes adjusted to the brightness, as my heart rate sped, and my muscles tensed.
"What am I doing here?" I said, shedding a tear. My now wet face plastered my hair my cheek.
"Oh, don't cry, you're fine. We just saved you." The voice said, coming slowly closer to me. until they stood right behind me.
"Then why am I in shackles?" I asked, feeling extremely scared and overwhelmed. I was frightened and stuck and hated every second of it.
"There's a lot to explain," The voice began. "you are a hawkan, first of all. A winged-human. You had wings seven hours ago, but you retracted them. For now, you are human. You can switch back and forth. Yes, I know, this is a lot to take in, but for the next few weeks you will experience excruciating pains. It will go away after a while, once your body gets used to it, but for now, you're human."
I was stunned. Everything I had just taken in felt like the worst dream of my life. It sucked, and it gave me chills. I couldn't understand all of the information, but I could process the word 'hawkan'. The word rang through my head, making it ache. I hated this. All of it.
"Why did you intoxicate my latte? Why not someone else's latte?" I asked, desperately wanting to see who it was, standing behind me.
"Because," The voice began, turning to face me. It was a boy. My age. His black hair shimmered in the dim light, his green eyes bright and colorful. "you are different. And I didn't intoxicate you. Alex did."
I looked up in shock, for the person I imagined wasn't who it was.
"Who's Alex?" I said, realizing that was a stupid question, because I had known who he was, and I had seen him before.
"Hello." Another voice came, sounding familiar. "I'm Alex. I'm the deputy hawkan here." Alex said. His hair, extremely blonde and his eyes, a light blue. Grey, almost. He quickly sprouted wings. They were gold and white, the shimmering pattern on them blinded my eyes. "This," Alex began. "is Tyler. He's been here since he was 6 years old." He concluded.
Pains in my back increased, and I began to feel agonizing shocks up my spine and in my shoulder blades. I glanced back at Alex and Tyler to see them quickly giving me anesthetics to ease the pain. My eyes slowly closed, as I began losing feeling in my back. I could see my wings out of the corner of my eye, just before closing them.
Then, I had blacked out.
Again.
