Hopes and Dreams

I had a dream once,
In it I was very happy.
I was accepted and enjoyed by everyone.
And then I woke up.

Reality is cold and harsh.
Compared to my hopes for this life,
Reality is a nightmare.

Reality is the worst kind of nightmare,
It starts out as all is well and dandy.
And then it hits you,
Like a semi truck speeding at you at ninety miles an hour.

The scary thing is you will never see it coming.
Unfortunately there is no escape from reality,
It is here to stay.
It will soak into your mind like a parasite,
And then your hopes and dreams disappear.

Reality is the frightening realization of what is to come.
History repeating itself is bound to happen and we will be stuck in another civil war.
We are stuck in a civil war,
There are closed minded people who are so judgmental, they have no escape.
And then there are a few who see the world for what it could be and what it can be.
Those are the people who outlast us all,
But they are rare, like diamonds.

Waking up from a daydream is terrible,
Your perfect fantasy world is washed away by real life.
And then it's clear that sometimes you have to accept what is coming.
That's the key.

I am hoping,
For my fantasy to become reality.
I am hoping,
I can hold of the hit of true reality.
I am dreaming,
Of a better world.
I am dreaming,
Of a perfect place.

But alas,
Reality is a cruel mistress.
And the world stays the same.
