"Can we go to the park papa?" Saralyn tugged her father's finger. "Sure sweetie." Frederick gazed down lovingly at his pride and joy. Today was her fifth birthday and also the day he lost her. His wife Sarah-Elizabeth had died giving birth to his beautiful baby girl and he cherished her even more for being the last piece of her left. They were walking out of the cemetery after doing their annual visit when he took Saralyn into his arms to cross the road. Looking both ways, he was almost across the road when he saw a couple in front of the fountain.
The couple had apparently begun to draw a crowd. The man had been mid way making a speech as Frederick could see his lips moving and the guy was about to get on one knee. He didn't freeze however due to the guy in the suit making a proposal he made a life altering decision to pause mid step due to what he saw.
The guy proposing looked exactly like him. The blares of a horn took him out of his trance. "Hey look out!" Screech!
Emile's POV
"The last thing Frederick saw was bright lights people screaming and the last thing he could do was throw Saralyn out of his arms before he got hit." Emile recounted to the detective at the hospital .
The last twelve hours was crazy. He had finally gotten his parents to accept that he was going to propose to Anna and make her Mrs. Saunders. At twenty eight as the CEO of his own security company he still required his parents approval. Family was everything to him but he had resigned the notion of making his younger sister Emily accept it.
'Can't win them all.' He thought and made his way to park across from her modelling agency. At the back of the park was a beautiful fountain he decided was perfect for the occasion even though it was morbidly in front of the cemetery. Half way through his proposal a car had crashed into a man and his daughter crossing the street. Anna was pissed to say the least but I ran to see what could be done. The child seemingly four or five was thankfully breathing but knocked out due to the force of being thrown out of the way.
"Call an ambulance quick ! " I shouted in the midst of chaos. A lady clutching her own child and weeping reacted and took out her phone. I walked over closer to the vehicle and driver that was panicking and pleading his innocence to the judging glares of the crowd. "He... He...he stopped in the road! " he shouted.
'What on earth could make a man carrying what I presume to be his daughter across the street stop in the road.' I thought as I etched closer to the accident, 'That's a poor excuse. I should call Emily about this. She'll be happy to prosecute this scumbag'
The guy was set at an odd angle on the ground face forward. I could only see his but there was something familiar about this guy I couldn't place. His clothing made me aware he wasn't my usual social acquaintance yet I couldn't shake the feeling. The sounds of sirens could be heard as the police and ambulances made their way. Anna had walked up alongside me noticing, "come on babe, the day has been ruined anyway. Stupid man why did he stop in the road?" She grumbled unsympathetically. For the first time in our two years of dating I looked at Anna in disgust and after sharing a smile with Roger the police officer I had helped to solve a case once I turned away.
That guy seemed so familiar,' I thought yet again. Being lost in thought, I hadn't heard Roger calling me. Anna tugged the jacker of my suit to alert me and i turned around to face him. "Why hello there Roger. Unfortunately, this area isn't covered under my security system so I'm afraid I wouldn't be of any assistance." I offered sadly. Roger gripped his belt and frowned looking down before meeting my gaze," I understand that Mr. Saunders but I was just asking after looking at the victim you see, if you would like to accompany your brother to the hospital?"
