House of Memories

We make eye contact
I blush and look away
You smile and talk to your friends
Then you walk towards me
We talk
I smile

You hold my hand tight
Scary movies at a drive in
Popcorn in my hair
Stargazing till midnight
You look in my eyes and I look in yours
Kisses on my doorstep

Arguments in public
Running hands through our hair in frustration
Never agreeing
Talking it out
Forgiving each other
Loving each other

You kneel on one knee
You open a velvet box
A beautiful ring is revealed
I cry of happiness
You say "will you please?"
I say "of course"

The church is filled
Family and friends
Congratulations
Vows are made
"I do"
We are together forever

You leave me
You go fight
Fight for our home
Fight for us
Fight for me
Leaving me home alone

I hear a knock on the door
I answer and start crying
"I'm sorry" he says
I am handed a letter and folded flag
I hold them close to my chest
My heart aches

The church is filled
Family and friends
We cry together
The gun salute breaks our sobs
I place the flag on your coffin
They lower you down into the ground

I'm alone
Alone with my thoughts
Alone with our memories
Looking back makes me sad
I have no regrets in
Our house of memories
